Now that it’s officially fall (how?!), it’s time to snag kids’ winter boots, and we’ve rounded up some of the best!
What are your favorite snow boots for kids? How early do you usually shop for winter wear for your kids?
With a nod to the saying about putting your own oxygen mask on first — and uh, extending that to footwear — our past recs from CorporetteMoms and Corporette for women’s winter boots include the UGG Kesey Winter Boot and these waterproof, weatherproof boots for work. Readers have recommended Sorel’s Winter Carnival Boot and Slimpack II Lace Duck Boot.
I’m a big fan of Kamik’s winter boots (I bought these for myself), and I wrote about their kids’ Snobuster 1 boot last winter. My son is very picky about boots, and he really likes these. They’re waterproof and warm, and the drawstring at the top helps keep out snow — because snow in your boots is seriously not fun.
Incidentally, I had never heard of Kamik until a few years ago but just discovered they’ve been around since 1898 (and that they have some good sustainability practices).
The boots are $44.99 at Zappos in Toddler 8 to Big Kid 4; Amazon has more colors (and sizes up to Big Kid 6) for $34.08 and up.
Not only do these boots from BOGS have 2,000+ positive reviews, they have tons of colorful and cute prints, like this fun daisy/polka-dot combo. (And penguins! And owls! And trucks!) They’re waterproof and comfort rated to 14° F but are still breathable and lightweight, and they have a fuzzy, comfy lining. The upper part is adjustable with a velcro strap, and the built-in handles are a big help for little hands.
Like Kamik, BOGS has some admirable sustainability practices, too.
The boots are available at Amazon for $54.91 and up in many designs and in sizes Infant 4–10 and Toddler 4–10. Nordstrom has them in bigger kid sizes as well as women’s sizes.

Last winter, a reader commented to recommend the Dick’s Sporting Goods version of BOGS at a much lower price. By February, she noted that her kids had worn the boots almost every day in late fall and winter so far and they had no signs of wear. (The boots, that is!)
These boots from Dick’s are warm and waterproof, and they have handy (no pun intended) pull-on handles as well as a rubber shell cover on the toe to make them more durable.
The boots are $24.99 for black/pink and $29.99 for black/blue at Dick’s; sizes are 11K to 7.
You can’t do a winter boot roundup without including L.L.Bean, right? No, you cannot. (Unfortunately, currently you can only shop by warmth ratings — warm, warmer, and warmest — for adult boots, not for kids’.)
L.L.Bean’s Northwoods Boot is their most popular kids’ style and has tons of positive reviews. My favorite feature is the two sets of warm liners that are included — you can take them out to dry! The boots are also adjustable at the ankle and at the top and have reflective trim for safety.
These boots come in purple, black/gray, and the pictured black/navy in sizes 10–13 and 1–7.
Readers, do tell: What are your favorite kids’ winter boots?
Psst: we need to do a newer roundup of washable winter coats for women, but if you’re on the hunt for a new winter coat for yourself, these are some of the classics we love!
Some of our favorite classic coats include: olive / blue / green / caramel / pink / gray (not pictured but also)
I bought Bogs for my older kid last winter for the first time and he wore them all season. They’re easy to slip on and seem to be pretty warm and snow proof. Will pass them down to younger brother. I’m debating getting a pair for next winter now but I’m afraid his shoe size will change in the next few months…
I was a big fan of Kamik Snowbug when my son was a toddler/preschooler as the top part separates enough to make them easier to get on. My son has very high arches and insteps, so this is always an issue for us. They seemed adequately warm for NYC winters (e.g. cold and snow but not necessarily walking in nature all the time).
We have Bogs and my kids like them but I always think they seem so heavy. But we live in the upper Midwest so very cold and lots of snow .I have been looking more at hiking boots this year. Has anyone done the kids Sorel’s?
We’ve done the Kamik ones pictured and really like them. I also appreciate that you can take out the liner and use them as rainboots.
My four year old wears the Crocs rainboot with wool socks. The Crocs are light and waterproof, and the wools sock keeps his feet warm. Sometimes I will double up the socks.
