Washable Workwear Wednesday: Striped Button Cuff Wrap Dress

What I like about this dress from Ann Taylor is that it keeps the wrap dress style but also blends a more tailored aspect. The button cuffed sleeves, the plain colored belt, and the vertical stripes — which usually skew more toward business casual — help to professionalize it. The v-neck of a wrap dress is flattering and makes it faster to take a pump break. I happen to like the color as well, and it would force me out of my black/white/gray work wardrobe instincts. As styled on the site with a black shoe, it looks a little harsh to my eye — I probably would wear it with a nude shoe or even silver or gold. It’s $98 and comes in regular and petite sizes. ASOS has a plus-size option (which looks short, but the model is 5’11”.)

Budget Thursday: Floral Vented Pencil Skirt

The colors in this skirt are so fun! They’re kind of neon-y, but the conservative length and cut of the skirt keep it from being too fun for a buttoned-up office. (It also comes in an understated black/white polka dot.) I like the way it’s styled with a white top, but I would probably do a crisp, collared, white button-up instead. Maybe even a fun belt. (Side note — how is everyone feeling about fashion belts nowadays?) Note that the description says it has a “saucy back vent.” I don’t know if that means there’s a high slit in the back or if it was just a copywriter trying to spice it up. Just a warning to check the view from the back before wearing. It’s only $16.97 at Nordstrom Rack. Philosophy Apparel Floral Vented Pencil Skirt

Budget Thursday: Hestley Loafer

If we’d had an Accessory Tuesday this week, I would have posted this Paul Green loafer (even though I’m not normally a loafer girl). These $40 loafers from Indigo Rd. are much more affordable and come recommended from a reader, who said they’re a great option for wearing with ankle pants and so on. She said they’re “Super comfy right out of the box and a great fit for someone who has problems with their heels slipping out of shoes. They also do a good job of straddling the line between menswear inspired and still feminine.” The shoes are available at DSW in black in sizes 6-11. Hestley Loafer

Budget Thursday: Seamed Colorblock Dress

Society New York is one of Amazon’s fashion brands, and this machine washable dress looks like a great workwear piece. I like that it’s not too fitted — you don’t need to be Spanx-ed to within an inch of your life to wear it — but the shape is still flattering. I like that the colorblock pattern (also flattering) isn’t too Star Trek–y, as well. It’s gotten a couple of reviews so far, which are positive, and it’s eligible for Prime. Seamed Colorblock Dress

Accessory Tuesday: “The Point” Flat

I’ve been eyeing these cute flats from Rothy’s for a while now and I’m curious whether any of the readers have tried them. There are two styles, the Point and the Flat (which has more of a round toe), and they’re supposed to be like fancy ballet flats. They’re washable, made from recycled water bottles (and are recyclable), designed to be “blister-free,” and so on. We’re featuring these lovely, lipstick-red camo ones — I’m not usually a camo person, but this actually seems more like a fun snake print and not exactly camo. (Note that some colors will be retired soon.) They are a little pricey — $125 to $145. Rothy’s

A couple of flats that are more affordable and have fun prints are from Target and Sam Edelman at Zappos.

Budget Thursday: Lightweight Ponte Sleeveless Dress

This dress from Uniqlo comes in a dark gray, black, and a pretty rose. Note that this is not a jersey dress, and it’s a much lighter weight ponte than what you may be thinking of for a ponte dress, so keep that in mind. The reviewers say it doesn’t cling, though, which is always my primary thought when I’m considering a jersey or ponte dress. This dress is simple and classic, and it would make a great option for work. It’s machine washable, which is always nice, and it’s only $20, too. Lightweight Ponte Sleeveless Dress

Here’s a plus-size option with many color choices.
