Oooh, pretty. I really like the gray stones for this statement necklace. I like the linear, yet natural, feel to the stones, and I think the mix of gray and gold is an unusual one (they also have it in a teal agate). The gray necklace was $98, but is now marked to $45 at Banana Republic; use code BRSHOPNOW to bring the price down to $22.50. Banana Republic Zuma Beach Statement NecklaceSales of note for 9.10.24

OMG, husband is out of town, baby woke up every 3 hours and then refused to go back in the crib after the 5 am wakeup. I gave up and pulled her into bed with me at 6 am, only to have the doorbell ring at 7 am and the dogs go bonkers. I have two major deadlines this morning and a meeting this afternoon, but I’m wrecked.
In a related question – does anyone have suggestions for diapers that will keep my kiddo from feeling wet at night? We switched to Pampers BabyDry when she was a newborn and it solved the problem, but now even those don’t work so she wakes up screaming and trying to rip off the diaper. Fun times.
JJ says
It never fails – whenever my husband goes out of town (which is at least once a month), either the kids get sick or I do. There’s nothing worse than dealing with that kind of stuff alone.
As for diapers, we used to use Pampers swaddlers. But we’ve recently changed to Huggies Little Movers and the kids seems to like them (and stay dry at night). Any chance your daughter needs to move up a diaper size? I know Pampers also sells a specific “overnight” diaper, but we haven’t tried it yet.
Semi-experienced Mom says
How old is baby? I feel like at certain ages, babies just wake up during the night. Try a bigger size or different brand just to see, or if it is leaking, try double-bagging – put 1 diaper on forwards and then another on top, backwards. This is what I did for airplane travel!
CHJ says
My son was up constantly last night, too, and would only fall back to sleep when he was physically sleeping ON me, preferably while pulling my hair. I kept trying to scoot away once he fell back asleep, but he had heightened mama-dar all night and would wake up immediately if he wasn’t touching me. I am so exhausted today and I’m not sure I remember how to read.
For diapers, we use Pampers Cruisers/Swaddlers and the Up-and-Up brand from Target. Both seem to keep him quite dry.
FVNC says
No advice on the diapers. My baby is disturbingly content to wallow in her own mess.
Lots of commiseration on the lack of sleep. Mine currently has infections in both ears, a terrible cold, is teething, and was sent home yesterday from daycare b/c of high fever (and is home again today). I’m tired and not being productive when I really need to be. Thankfully, she’s napping well, so I’m trying to maximize that time. Good luck!! Hope the sleeping improves soon!

I loved Honest Co for overnights. They seemed to hold more at full volume than huggies. WE mostly use Target brand, though :)
(former) preg 3L says
We use Pampers BabyDry Overnight and go up a size. Helps a bunch. But also, if my LO takes more than like 2 overnight feedings, I just know that I’ll have to change her at some point overnight, so I try to do it before 3am — she seems to have an easier time getting back to sleep.
NewMomAnon says
Yeah…my kiddo is really sensitive to wet diapers so she demands to be changed the minute she can tell the diaper is wet. Baby Dry had been good until recently. She is 20 pounds and currently in size 4, which is supposed to start at 22 pounds; size 5 doesn’t start until 27 pounds. I know those sizes are just estimates, but I’m afraid she’ll be in size 6 by a year old and we’ll have her in Depends after that…yikes.
She had just started a nice routine of waking up only once a night, too. Phooey.
Diana Barry says
We have either Pampers or Huggies extra protection overnights.
Also, I always ignored those weight recommendations. None of my kids ever grew out of the size 6, don’t worry! They went up to the next size way before they were supposed to by weight, though.
anon says
My kiddo is a year old, 22lbs and still in size 3. She’s tall and has no butt (only got one of those from me….!!). Someone warned me some babies are in size 3 forever but wow. She was in newborns for a hot second, 1s for 1-2 months, 2s for 2 months, and 3s since she was more or less 6 months old.
Nonny says
We use Kirkland and haven’t been changing our LO in the middle of the night since she was about 3 months old. Have had maybe 2 overnight leaks since then.
eh230 says
Huggies overnights. Both my kids have been very heavy wetters, and these were a godsend!
Kat G says
We used Huggies overnights too — as well as these boosters.

Hope you and baby girl are doing well and that your husband hasn’t pulled any more shenanigans!
(former) preg 3L says
Ha, thanks. I’m kind of beside myself about his latest email (but fortunately it’s only an email!) and I’m getting impatient (which is probably a really bad sign). I need to figure out how to compartmentalize more.
For (former) preg 3L says
I think the impatience is normal. This has been a long time coming – you’ve been mulling it over in your head for a long time – and now that you’ve made your decision you want things to be resolved ASAP! Which is totally, completely, normal :) don’t beat yourself up over it!
But yes, compartmentalization is good. You’re taking great care of your daughter, but make sure you’re taking care of yourself, too.

Can you send his emails to a hidden folder instead of your main inbox? That way you can deal with it when you have a moment instead of being blindsided in the middle of whatever you are doing. Unless it is something regarding your child, he shouldn’t have too many emergency needs (and for the baby, that’s likely phone call time)

Dropped the kiddo at elementary school in the loaner car from the dealer, picked up my “old” (2008!) not-a-minivan-I-swear, made it the ob/gyne for the Harmony blood draw bc I’m 10 weeks along and Advanced Maternal Age, came into work and sold my 1st consulting services (yeah!) and going by my parents’ house today at lunch to drop off the carseat that I borrowed from them for the loaner car, and keep my billable rate in the 90% this week.
Go working moms! We can do it!
anon says
are you going to find out the gender with teh Harmony draw?! When I had my last baby they told me it was an option if you requested it. I wasn’t even advanced maternal age but have a close-enough-to-count genetic issue.
Yay Me says
No, I checked the box to find out the other chromosome stuff but not the gender XX or XY make-up. We like to do that part the old-fashioned way :)
anon says
I was too impatient. We found out the gender @ 11 weeks and YAY SCIENCE. It was funny because I had assumed I was going to have the opposite gender. It took several weeks to readjust my brain!
Tunnel says
Side note: You can find out the baby’s *sex*, not gender. Sex is biological, gender is not.

Would you baptize/christen your kids if it was important to your family but of absolutely no importance to you? We have a little one and her grandparents and great-grandparents are all very concerned she has not yet been baptized. I started doing some research and called around to see what was involved to see if I could placate them….and I just feel phony. I don’t feel great about standing up and proclaiming I’m going to raise this kid as a Very Serious Christian? Anyone I’d want to be the godparent (in the loosest of terms) is jewish or embarrassingly lapsed christian.
It really seems to be weighing on my and my husband’s grandmother, as well as my mother-in-law.
Yay Me says
I did reply in ‘ r e t t e s – let me know if you want me to reply here, too.
NewMomAnon says
We’re struggling with this too. I thought about doing a nondenominational “blessing”, but then…what’s the point? I grew up Catholic, and I thought of doing a Catholic baptism just to please whoever would be pleased by that, but I was afraid that I would go to h3ll if I stood up at the altar and lied in front of the congregation. Much as I would like to offer my daughter an opportunity for spirituality, I’d like to introduce her to a more woman-friendly faith.
One thought – many faiths do baptism as adults. Could you just tell family that you are going to let your kiddo figure it out and make the decision when she is ready? I have also heard of grandparents having babies baptised secretly, so if they really want her baptised, maybe you can suggest they make the arrangements?
Yay Me says
Isn’t faith funny? You don’t really believe but don’t want to go to H-E-double-hockey sticks for saying that you do believe when you don’t.
There are so many things I feel the same way about.
NewMomAnon says
Yes, I think I’ve come around to the idea that there is a difference between “spirituality” and “religion.” Like, I can believe in a higher power and respect that belief by not telling lies about my faith, but I don’t need to buy into all the infrastructure and rules about the “right” way to worship. I’m still working out what exactly I believe in, but whatever it is, it is not the rules of worship put forth by most churches.
Which…putting that in writing that actually makes me rethink that idea of a blessing.
