2018 Update: You may want to check out some of our more recent stories about bedtime, including our recent post on how to get your kids to sleep. My younger son (H, 25 months) is the night owl in the family — on nights when my husband and I give in to sleep on the … Read More about Finally Friday: Aurora Borealis Nightlight
Postpartum Tuesday: Amber Diaper Tote Bag
Well, well: this $29 diaper bag is winning rave reviews over at Amazon. I like the lightweight material in a sophisticated color, the interior organization (pockets galore!), and the multiple straps for carrying or hanging the bag on your stroller. Best of all: have I mentioned it’s $29? Bellotte Amber Diaper Tote Bag (L-2)
Postpartum Tuesday: Document Organizer
I am intrigued, ladies — when you were pregnant and postpartum, did you rely on paper organizers or online organization? This Baby Briefcase looks like an interesting way to store and organize things, but my complaint would be that it would hold things that I could easily jettison after a few months (like a thank-you tracker … Read More about Postpartum Tuesday: Document Organizer
Gear Tuesday: Diaper Bags
Hat tip to blogger Putting Me Together, who loves the functionality of Lily Jade bags so much she apparently has three of them — I love the classic shape of the bags, as well as the professional look to them. There are a number of different sizes and colors, but this one is my favorite — … Read More about Gear Tuesday: Diaper Bags
Nursing/Feeding Tuesday: Nite-Nite Light Bulb
We got a version of this “sleepy baby” lightbulb from Hammacher Schlemmer a while ago — we were ordering other stuff and it was on sale, so I figured, why not throw it in — and we’ve been very happy with it. We have it in the reading lamp closest to my 4.5-year-old’s bed (although it would also work well for babies’ nighttime feedings and diaper changes), and bedtime has been easier since we got it. I’m not sure I’d say the former light energized him, but this one definitely seems to make it easier for him to recognize it’s bedtime. The Hammacher Schlemmer one is still available for $20, but this one is also highly rated and available through Amazon Prime for $20 as well. SCS Nite-Nite Light Bulb
Hmn: here’s a whole article about it in the NYT.
Feeding Tuesday: Divided Plates
I’ve been trying to upgrade my kids’ dining accessories by moving away from cheap plastic with weird chemicals and into friendlier pieces. These simple plates (which seem expensive, but do come in a pack of 3) are a hit thus far — they’re “BPA, Phthalate, PVC and Melamine FREE,” dishwasher safe, and made from recycled … Read More about Feeding Tuesday: Divided Plates
Finally Wednesday: Gym Tote
Pretty much the only thing I can imagine buying for myself at this point (at least, before sales start, ha) is fitness gear — and Amazon has some as part of their big markdowns. This gym tote from LeSportsac looks functional — huge but lightweight! — and while they have it in black at full … Read More about Finally Wednesday: Gym Tote
Finally Wednesday: Kids’ Ultimate EZ Fold Wagon
When we were traveling last week, I saw a mom pulling her kids (ages 2 and 5, I’d guess) through the airport terminal with a foldable wagon. One kid sat in it and one walked beside her, and the wagon was piled high with carry-on luggage. Amazing. I marveled at it — it struck me as much … Read More about Finally Wednesday: Kids’ Ultimate EZ Fold Wagon
Feeding Tuesday: Everyday Child’s Mug
Wait a minute: Ceramic, breakable mugs for little kids? I know, it doesn’t sounds like a great idea, but bear with me! The summer my son turned four, I was getting tired of plastic cups of milk and juice always getting tipped over at dinnertime — they’re unbreakable, which is nice, but not heavy enough to withstand accidental … Read More about Feeding Tuesday: Everyday Child’s Mug
Diaper Bags: What’s In Yours?
What’s in your diaper bag? Who stocks it, and who usually carries it? I know a lot of people keep their cars and/or big strollers well-stocked — and some have the nanny in charge of the diaper bag — but I’ve always kept the bag stocked and ready for us to go out to eat, to a museum, or to the airport. … Read More about Diaper Bags: What’s In Yours?
Feeding Tuesday: Fragrance-Free Baby Bottle & Dish Liquid
You know, it’s funny — I thought I used everything sensitive and safe for babies. Laundry detergent! Bubble bath! Sensitive bath wipes! Yet we never used this dishwashing liquid, which I’ve heard so many mothers rave about that I must be the rarity. It’s “all natural and baby safe,” and claims to remove the residue and odor associated with … Read More about Feeding Tuesday: Fragrance-Free Baby Bottle & Dish Liquid
Pumping Tuesday: ‘Marion’ Messenger Baby Bag
This is not a pumping bag, but it does look like a lovely and highly rated baby bag. I like the sedate colors (a dark purpley blue and black), as well as the little details like the lightweight (and easily cleaned) nylon, and the magnetic snap-flap closure. It’s $350 at Nordstrom.
