Interesting: a silk/viscose blouse that is also machine washable. Say what? I like the relaxed fit, the fun prints and colors, and the details like the pleats at the neckline and the keyhole in back. The blouse is $88 at Boden, available in sizes 2-18. Boden Long Line Ravello Top (L-2)Sales of note for 4.18.24

I’ve read that baby shoes aren’t recommended until walking is established. My daughter is almost 10 months. She’s not yet walking, but she’s cruising around, holding onto the furniture. Daycare just asked me to send shoes with her. There’s a wood deck outside, and apparently she enjoys cruising along the railing slats.
For this purpose, should I get the soft shoes that have a leathery no-slip bottom? I’m looking at a brand called Robeez. Or do I just get no-slip socks? I’m hesitant to get anything more substantial until she’s actually walking, but I’d like to at least try to comply with daycare’s request, since they must be worried about splinters (as well as the cooler weather, I’m sure).

Robeez are perfect for this situation! Kohls also has a cheaper brand version called Tommy Tickle, normally I don’t advocate cheaper shoes for kids learning to walk, but in this situation – the shoes just have a thin piece of leather on the botttom and for daycare (everything that goes to daycare for us gets very dirty and / or misplaced easily) – I say go for it.

The Robeez are good for this stage (Target makes a knock-off, Mini-Star?, that fit my child’s foot better). See Kai Run is another good brand for littles when they start walking and I think they make a leather slipper type shoe.

Our daughter wore the leather-bottomed soft shoes at that stage. She had a pair or two of See Kai Run and I liked them a lot, but I love Pediped–I’ve stuck with that brand as she’s gotten older because they really fit her foot shape well. I’ve heard good things about the Robeez, too; we just never tried them.

You may want to ask daycare for clarification or check to see if it is in the handbook. Our daycare specifically calls out that Robeez and other thin soft sole shoes aren’t substantial enough for kids in the toddler room (18 months and up) to play outside in, but I’m not sure about the early walkers in the infant room.
The mini-star knockoffs worked for us too. Robeez held up better overall (we were able to pass one pair down through 3 kids) while the mini-star started to fall apart around the same time the kid was oitgrowig them anyway

As always, thanks so much for the very helpful (and quick) advice!
Meg Murry, I laughed a little when you said handbook. She’s at a home daycare with no actual policies on things like this. I don’t mind because they provide an excellent loving environment, and my baby is very happy there. But I’d probably pass out from shock if they gave me a handbook!
anne-on says
We did robeez and pedi ped shoes at that age as my son did (and still has) very chubby feet. The soles on both were thin (though the pedi peds were more substantial) and very flexible. Our daycare also removed shoes immediately if kids were not outside (dirt reasons) so I wasn’t too worried about it impacting his foot development.

Anyone have recommendations for a robe? I am looking for one that I can wear post-partum while nursing and being around the house. I want it to have pockets, and enough coverage that it would be good while my MIL or nanny are around the house. I remember being freezing all the time after giving birth the first time around, so something on the heavier side would be good. Thanks!

I have the Barefoot Dreams drape front cardigan from Nordstrom and love it – it’s so cozy! They also have a robe – http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/barefoot-dreams-cozychic-robe-nordstrom-online-exclusive/2833517?origin=keywordsearch. I haven’t seen the robe in person, but if it’s similar in weight and softness to the cardigan I think it would be a good choice.
JMDS says
This looks so cozy! Thanks.

When are you due? I actually had the opposite issue (overheated due to still carrying extra weight plus baby hot water bottle laying on me all the time) and during some of the hormonal swings would have something that I think was like a hot flash.
No specific recs but if you are looking for a winter weight bathrobe, consider looking at some of the men’s ones if you don’t mind rolling up the sleeves – they tended to be warmer, longer and thicker plus cheaper last time I was winter robe shopping.
For a lightweight fall/spring robe, I really like my basic Target Gilligan and O’Malley robe, but the ones online aren’t showing pockets, and mine does have them.
For a not-technically a robe but as comfy as one for fall/spring, I have a zippered, hooded swim coverup from Lands End that I got on clearance that I often use as a round-the-house top layer with pockets.
JMDS says
Due next month. I looked at the Gilligan and O’Malley one in person, sadly no pockets, which is a must for me.

I lived in a fleece Land’s End robe during my maternity leave. They don’t seem to have the exact one now (mine is hooded, though that’s not particularly useful) but this is close http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-fleece-robe/id_289705?sku_0=::KRZ

DC/Maryland ladies, do any of you have family photographer recommendations? We have never done family photos, but I’d like to do some this fall. Also, any tips in general for finding someone?
JEB says
We used Djenno Bacvic for our newborn/family photos. If you’re looking for heavy staging and props, he’s not for you. His photos are more natural. He’ll come to your home or to a location of your choice, which makes things easy. He was super nice, and his prices were very good.
KJ says
Thanks! I definitely prefer a more natural approach, so this sounds great.
