And — here are some of our latest threadjacks of interest – working mom questions asked by the commenters!!
- The concept of “backup care” is so stupid…
- I need tips on managing employees in BigLaw who have to leave for daycare pickup…
- I’m thinking of leaning out to spend more time with my family – how can I find the perfect job for that?
- I’m now a SAHM and my husband needs to step up…
- How can I change my thinking to better recognize some of my husband’s contributions as important, like organizing the shed?
- What are your tips to having a good weekend with kids, especially with little kids? Do you have a set routine or plan?
Anyone here on weekends? Ugh I was a grouch to my kid today (because she was acting like a freakin’ junkie — I made the mistake of letting her try out this game I downloaded on a nearly-defunct old phone, because if she liked it I was gonna let her have it on an upcoming flight… anyway it was a little beyond her abilities so she kept getting angry and frustrated but also super possessive and then she just like LOST IT when I took it away for very necessary things… but then because I was already mad at her for her attitude I wasn’t particularly kind about it: “I’m going to cut your nails and I don’t care if you’re crying for the damn phone!”).
Then I apologized before bed, like “I’m sorry I got grouchy with you tonight.” And she was all, “what you mean? what you say when you feel grouchy?” and it’s like, oh ok cool I guess we’re revisiting this unnecessarily? I was trying to set an example by apologizing but maybe I just amplified my bad behavior???
Parenting is hard.
Thanks! Fortunately, it only took a week for my results, so hopefully his will be equally prompt.
Re: generic testing.
This is of no use to you, OP, and I hope you get (negative) results quickly and get on with TTC. Good luck!!
I actually insisted my husband and I test simultaneously precisely because I didn’t want to have to wait a couple additional weeks if anything turned up on my testing. I had a pretty high likelihood (50%) of being a carrier for something specific, because one of my parents is, but I think this is a good thing to do in any event. My insurance paid for both of us to test, no problem. I highly recommend requesting this for anyone thinking about preconception generic screening!
anyone have experience with teaching a preschooler to read? My son is turning 4 next month, goes to daycare full time and can write his name and the alphabet. He recently asked me when he is going to learn to read, and was pretty disappointed with the answer of “Kindergarten” (2 yrs away due to cut off age). Anyways, I’d like to teach him in a relaxed, casual way without pressure or “ruining” reading. We already go to the library every week and read a multitude of books to him at bedtime. He also watches the Super Why show from PBS. Any other shows or apps that would be good for this?
okay, my husband and I have agreed that we can NOT keep up with life lately. We have cleaners come every other week and they do a few loads of laundry, but that’s not enough. Our house is always a disaster and I am always behind. So, we are going to pay the cleaner to come in on alternate weeks for 4-6 hours and do “tasks” that we leave for her. Here’s what I have so far: laundry, chops vegetable and maybe shred meats for quick dinners through the week, straighten rooms, pick up dry cleaning and/or drop off.
but what else? I never, ever have time but now that it’s come down to it I can’t think of what other tasks I need done. suggestions?
Warning: TTC rant ahead
My pre-conception genetic screening came back with me as a carrier for spinal muscular atrophy. Now we need for my husband to get tested so that we know if there is a chance we could pass this on. I know that, in the grand scheme of life, this is not the end of the world, but i’m 37 and really want to have babies and i just want to get on with it already!
