If you prefer running socks on the thinner side, you may want to consider these from Bombas.
These lightweight socks are meant for running or any other workout. They’re made from a moisture-wicking, cotton-poly blend with just enough cushioning for comfort. They also come in a range of sizes (which for my small feet means no more slippage) and colors. Also, for each sock purchased, Bombas will donate one to someone experiencing homelessness.
These socks are $49.50 for three pairs. They come in sizes S to L, and seven different packs ranging from colorful to plain white.
Psst: Note that if you can hold out for a few days, there are a lot of good deals on Bombas in the 2022 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

Old Mom question.
My 8 year old wants “Roblox.” I’m not sure what this is. A game for the Nintendo Switch? An app for his Fire? Amazon had a bunch of digital gift cards with “Roblux” on them – is that what he means? Help this luddite out. Thanks.
Meg says
It’s an app/online game. I know on iPad, not sure on fire, but you can get to it on browser too. It’s really a hub where there are lots of mini games. Kids can play together.

I was concerned about the “social” aspects of Roblox — you can turn on/off settings so they can only chat with friends, can’t add friends, need approval to add friends, etc. I’m STILl not sure what it is tbh. My autistic son primarily uses Roblox Creator to create/join worlds with a zillion ceiling fans.

It’s a web-based platform where kids can play games created and posted by other people. Kids can make their own games with it too, although I don’t know any who have gotten into that coding aspect of it. My son plays it in a browser on a laptop or an app on a tablet. There is a big social element to it too – most of the games are multiplayer and you can play with online friends or strangers, and there is an active chat function. It is specifically geared to kids and the chat is heavily moderated, so it seems SOMEWHAT safe, although anything like this carries risk. There are also a lot of parental control options. I think the gift card would be for in-game purchases, which are made with a currency called Robux. You don’t necessarily need to spend money in the game but kids often want to. I would do some more research before you dive in because it does open you up to a world of internet strangers in a way that a self-contained game does not.
Second child question says
For those of you with no local family to help out or who could travel to help out – who watched your younger child/children when you were in the hospital birthing subsequent kids?
Anon says
We had friends help us, though our neighbors also offered to watch our first kiddo if we needed them to.
Anon says
Friends, neighbors, paid sitters
EDAnon says
My mom did come but if he’d been early, we had friends lined up.

I bet friends and neighbors would be happy to fill in for the actual birth and/or be on call to pick up kid from daycare. I would probably only ask very close friends to keep them for the duration of the hospital stay, however; you could piece together a few different people for that (friend one watches for birth then brings to daycare; friend two picks up and keeps overnight), although a paid sitter who can keep the child in their own house might be best. If all else fails, dad can go home after the birth.

We only have one child but did this for neighbors when their second was born and were very happy to do it. We weren’t even that close to them, but it was exciting and we could totally relate to needing the help. I think it ended up being just for a few hours until their parents could get there, but it was in the middle of the night. And then a few years later they were able to watch my son when I had to take my husband to the hospital in an emergency.

Complaint into the void. My parents have been talking about how excited they are to have the kids to themselves since they were born. This summer, first year on a school year calendar, they agreed to watch them two separate weeks. Well, just had the first week and they said it went great except actually they’ll do only three days for the week in august. All camps are filled. I’m scrambling to figure out how to cover it and annoyed they committed and are backing out, even though I know it’s not fair to be upset at them.

I think it’s fair to be upset at them! I’m sure someone will call me entitled, but committing to something and backing out is not ok and is very different than simply declining to do it in the first place.

Yup, this. Sorry, OP that is incredibly frustrating. If you only need to cover 2 days, I’d try to find a HS/college kid as a babysitter rather than camp. Worst case, can you or your partner wfh?
I had the kids home with me a couple days this week and it wasn’t great and involved more screens than I prefer, but it was better than paying for a full week of camp when we only needed 2 days. Good luck!
