The days are thankfully getting longer and the sun brighter. I’m pretty good about wearing sunscreen (at least on my face), but I probably should add a stylish hat into the mix.
This straw hat from Gigi Pip looks like an excellent topper. In a trendy bucket shape, this hat is flexible and packable. It will be perfect for summer strolls, beach trips, or any outing where you want a little coverage. It comes in three colors (black, natural, or my pick, striped) and four sizes so you can find your perfect fit.
Gigi Pip’s Sal hat is $52 on Zappos. It’s available in sizes XS (55 cm) to XL (61 cm).

Well it’s going to be 96 and 97 here over the next few days – I know it’s not the most environmentally friendly but I am so so grateful for central air! I got the kids some new indoor activities to occupy them in between our outdoor sessions of soccer and birthday party (it’s 2-4pm… think it’ll be rescheduled?!)

It will be snowing where I live!
EDAnon says
Oh man. Where are you? I am in the upper midwest and our lows will get in the 40s this weekend, but no snow (thank goodness!)
Anon says
Ah our heat wave is breaking this weekend and I can’t wait. It’s going to be sweater weather next week!
GCA says
Kid 1’s soccer was canceled (noon on Sunday) because of the heatwave. Meanwhile, it snowed at my in-laws’ house in Colorado. G-d climate change. I look at what’s happening in India (highs over 120F) and it’s terrifying…
On a smaller local level – cities have got to keep up with climate change! The city of Boston actually worked to turn its splash pads on early to help families with the weekend heat. Not everyone has an AC, and the water features aren’t usually on till mid-June or after Memorial Day. The nearby city I live in…not a peep. Yesterday we spent the afternoon hiding out at the local Y pool, today we’re going to go in to Boston and hit up a splash pad.

It is super terrifying. The weather is so volatile anymore. I also feel like our seasons have shifted. Like fall is hot, but spring is cold. That is, until there is a heat wave.
Anon says
It has definitely shifted. November is regularly warmer than April in my part of the Midwest.

As I said to DH last night, I am reasonably confident I will spontaneously combust upon setting foot outdoors in the full sun this weekend (DC area). My ghost-like skin does not react well to sun or heat. I once thought I managed to sunburn myself in under 10 minutes in the shade on vacation, but apparently I also turn bright pink when I get too warm as well (which disappears once I am back inside). Unfortunately I have to take kiddo to soccer (DH has a conflict) but other than that you will find me laying under a fan in the AC. I might convince DH to set up the inflatable pool or sprinkler for DD and I might indulge after the backyard turns to shade, but we’ll see how quickly it cools down. I detest summer and am already counting down the days until jeans and sweater weather again. DH feels about winter the way I do about summer, otherwise I probably would have moved to Maine already.

Maine is honestly not that cool in the summers lately either. I go annually and the last few years we’ve had many days I consider too warm to be anywhere but in a lake or ocean (85+ and extremely humid).
