Something on your mind? Chat about it here. When we did our review of the most-loved denim at Nordstrom last year on Corporette, I was interested to see that Wit & Wisdom’s Itty Bitty Bootcut was really popular — and it looks like they’ve done it again with these ankle skimmer jeans. (The length is just a little bit shorter than your ankle, which is kind of nice.) People swear by these jeans for shaping and smoothing and for being very comfortable and easy to care for at the same time, and they have a 4.6/5.0 rating at Nordstrom with 200+ reviews. I like the darker rinse, as well. These are $68 and come in regular, petite, and plus sizes. Mental Health Advice says
I’ve come to realize over the last few months that my husband has probably been mildly depressed for years, with occasional bouts of deeper depression (maybe 2-3 times a year). I have zero experience with depression and do not know the best place to start to support him. This week, he mentioned a desire to see a therapist twice. He’s historically been very opposed to therapy, so I was glad to hear him mention it. I’d like to encourage his desire to see a therapist. I’m willing to do all the legwork, including making the appt, going to the appt with him, driving him there, dealing with the insurance reimbursement paperwork, anything and everything. But what is the best and most appropriate way to support him? I’m certain that we could use some marriage counseling as well but I think his mental health is #1 priority. Would love feedback from someone who has been in either position.
anon says
that’s great that your husband is ready to seek therapy! I do not think you necessarily need to do all of the legwork, in fact that can be a bad precedent to set up. my husband was reluctant to seek therapy, but when he wanted it/agreed to do it, i did help him find someone, but he was responsible for going to the appointment and submitting the insurance paperwork. we did marriage counseling for a bit and i would highly recommend it to anyone, even if you aren’t having a significant issue. i think the best way to be supportive is to remind your husband you are there to talk, as him if his therapist has recommended anything that you can do to support him while he is going through this, but this is also something he needs to work through on his own.

Sick of Being Sick says
Is there some sort of bad cold with a persistent cough going around? Spouse and I have been sick for 3 weeks with a mild cold that is just lingering and lingering and causing nighttime cough. We’ve both been to doctors, been told it is viral, and just to tough it out. I just feel like I am never going to get better. Curious if anyone else out there is suffering.
avocado says
There is definitely something like that going around where I live. A few people I know have been put on steroids to deal with the lingering cough.
mascot says
It took mine about 4 weeks to go away.
SC says
There seem to be a ton of things going around where I live. I’ve been sick almost constantly since October. I had a long cold with a cough that lingered for months and made people think I was dying (it wasn’t that bad for me, just annoying). I’ve had a stomach virus. I’ve had an additional 2 colds, although the one that started with Monday was mild and short-lived. Everyone else in my area says the same thing. Strep is also going around, and of course, the flu, so I’m thankful I haven’t had either of those.
Vanessa says
Yes. I’ve been having a cold since about mid-December. I went to my doctor in early Jan and got a prescription for Tessalon Pearls during the worst of the coughing. I am just now starting to feel like the cough is backing off (but not completely gone). Doctor said it was viral so they couldn’t really give me anything to make it go away faster. It’s so awful. I am also So Sick of Being Sick.

I had that. Only got better when I took a week off around the holidays and really resting (my mom visited and helped out a ton with the kids). Sorry, it sucks.
Anon says
I had this. Spent 3 days in bed in mid-December and am only now just kicking the end of the stuff nose/cough.
Rainbow Hair says
Hey moms, any good ideas on what to serve at daycare for my kid’s birthday? I’m annoyedAF that they’re saying “no more cupcakes or cookies” like… fine, whatever, eyerolls4dayz.
I was thinking maybe like eggo waffles + berries + whipped cream as a morning snack?
Tfor22 says
When my guy was 2 he was crazy about chips and guacamole, so we brought that.
AIMS says
Can you do muffins? Or is that too cupcake like?
Rainbow Hair says
I think muffins would be too almost-cupcake-but-not for my kid, TBH. Like WTF is this muffin?! :-P
avocado says
Fruit kebabs? Or homemade baked doughnuts if you have a doughnut pan.
Anne-on says
Waffle bar? Send in egos, sprinkles, cut up fruit, Reid whip and Hershey’s syrup (if they’ll allow it).
Rainbow Hair says
SPRINKLES

That’s so annoying. Like either accept treats or don’t, but don’t make us try to think up pseudo treats. Following the letter but not the spirit of the rule, and in keeping with a sprinkles focus, what about Fairy Bread? I’ve never eaten this but the concept seems sound.

My roommate and I LOVED this recipe. We didn’t have butter, sprinkles, or white bread, so we subbed pita for the white bread, feta cheese for the butter, and chopped lamb for the sprinkles. It was so easy to make and my kids were also able to help, which I really appreciated. All in all it made for a great dinner, and I would definitely serve it to any guests. Thanks for a great, easy-to-follow recipe!

That review, it has to be a joke, right?!
avocado says
I thought the recipe itself was a joke too, but apparently it is a real thing! Yuck. Maybe if you used nutella instead of margarine, but then you run up against the nut issue.
Redux says
Yes, I think the review is sort of a commentary on the recipe: it’s great if you change everything about it!
The recipe made me cringe, but I bet my kid would love it.
EP-er says
Ha! A lot of the reviews are funny. “Not for the discerning palate.”

I showed this to my spouse, and he said he loved something like this when he went to Holland as a kid. So, it’s a thing, I guess. http://sweets.seriouseats.com/2011/12/eating-sprinkles-the-dutch-way-hagelslag-on-bread.html

I think it would be tasty if you used butter and colored sugar instead of sprinkles. And actually, nonpareils taste better than sprinkles I think. My mother used to secretly eat whole wheat bread covered with butter (actually margarine) and brown sugar in weaker moments. Butter and sugar is hard to make gross.
Ms B says
Soft pretzels with cheese for dipping. Our town has a bakery that does these and it always is a big hit.
EP-er says
Our daycare wouldn’t let us have cupcakes because of the frosting mess — the kids would lick off the frosting, get it everywhere, and not eat the cupcakes.
We’ve done Jello Jigglers, mini-Popsicles, fruit on a stick. At least we were are, no birthday celebrations allowed in elementary school, so we don’t have to worry about it any more!
Redux says
Jello Jigglers! I havent though about those since I was in elementary school. My kid and her daycare buddies would LOVE that.

My kids go bananas for pirate’s booty.

Breakfast:
donut holes, Mini bagels (they come in rainbow colors), muffins with cream cheese frosting, fruit kabobs or fruit in muffin cups
Lunch dessert/snack:
Fruit kabobs/fruit in muffin cups, jello or pudding cups, rainbow colored goldfish, “birthday cake” goldfish or teddy grahams, cheese sticks with celebratory drawings or stickers on them.
My personal approach is donut holes and/or stickers, if the school is super strict on food. Otherwise I do store bought school safe cupcakes. Why make yourself crazy bringing in a waffle bar for a class of 2 year olds?! Do that at home on a weekend when DH can help clean up :-).
I’m a jaded mom of 3 though. Even when I only worked PT no way was I jumping through any more hoops than necessary until the kid could remember or guilt me about it (3-5 depending on the kid).
