- The concept of “backup care” is so stupid…
- I need tips on managing employees in BigLaw who have to leave for daycare pickup…

- I’m now a SAHM and my husband needs to step up…
- How can I change my thinking to better recognize some of my husband’s contributions as important, like organizing the shed?
- What are your tips to having a good weekend with kids, especially with little kids? Do you have a set routine or plan?
My husband and I both have mid-December birthdays. He’s been saying lately that he really wishes we could get away overnight. My MIL used to take the kids for a weekend, but she’s having renovations done on her house and after that is having hip surgery, so that’s a no-go for many months. BUT I just secured a one-night overnight babysitter the weekend after our birthdays AND got an amazing deal at the hotel where we spent our wedding night. It’s going to be hard to top this birthday present next year.
Talk to me about what I should do this weekend. I’ve decided it is going to be a potty-training bootcamp of sorts.
DH is just shy of 2 yo and I wanted to wait (didn’t expect to have to deal this early) but was overruled by DH and daycare. She’s been wearing underwear at daycare the past couple of weeks (most kids in her class are as well) and for consistency, I want to start using the potty at home. Ideally I’d have liked to start at the same time, but we were travelling over Thanksgiving and it wasn’t practical.
My thought is to do diaper at naps and at night, and this weekend just stay inside, keep her as hydrated as possible, take her to the potty every 15 minutes, keep her commando, watch the Daniel Tiger potty episode a couple more times, just see how it goes? And then this week, start doing underwear at home as well as at daycare, with diapers only for sleeping. And if it goes well, start taking her to daycare in underwear (drive is 10-15 minutes). Thoughts?
