I love baking — right now, my kitchen is filled with apple and pumpkin spiced treats.
Nordic Ware’s Autumn Treats Pan will take those autumn goodies to another level. Each pan makes six cakelettes shaped like pumpkins, leaves, and acorns. Eat them straight from the pan, or accent with a little icing or chocolate once they cool.
This baking pan is $36.

Anyone else have an insane weekend of Halloween/fall events? We’re doing stuff tonight, basically all day tomorrow and Sunday afternoon and evening, and that’s after turning down a couple of invites/events. And of course there’s trick or treating on Tuesday, and then I’m chaperoning a field trip Wednesday morning with a bunch of sugar-filled, sleep deprived kids. Good vibes and lots of caffeine to all.
Anon says
Nope just manageable fun because is it really worth it to be running in empty?
Anon says
Oh it’s 100% worth me to see my kids having so much fun!! Just will be a tiring few days for me. 😅
Kate says
Wow! Have fun! (That was not sarcastic!)
Fortunately, the “sugar high” thing is a myth, so hopefully the kids won’t be all keyed-up. :)
Anon2 says
Lol yes, such a pet peeve of mine. Usually it’s the chaotic flurry of activity that accompanies lots of sugar (parties, holidays) that causes the hyper behavior
Anonymous says
They will be overtired, though.
HSAL says
Yeah, we’ve got three events tomorrow and two Saturday. I need to remember to buy more clearance costumes to have for next year’s events.
Anonymous says
They don’t wear the same costume for all the events?
Anne-on says
Our school does a late start the day after Halloween (after much parental lobbying) and the teachers and parents SO appreciate it. Good luck and have fun! I’m jealous as we’re banned from coming house to house this year which is making me a bit sad but at least I get to hand out candy to the cute little kids who hit our block.
Anon says
Oh I would love a late start on Nov 1. You’re geniuses!
OOO says
Any tricks for keeping an old-school ghost costume from sliding down my toddler’s head?
HSAL says
Safety pin to the clothes underneath on opposite sides?
Anne-on says
Cut arm holes in it and have them wear a white long sleeved t-shirt underneath? That should help hold things in place and will make taking candy much easier too!
HSAL says
I take mine back, this is better.
Anon says
Cute a head hole because a toddler will not keep a sheet over their head for long ;) You can put a white hoodie underneath.

Work is so stressful at the moment. I spend my days lurching from crisis to crisis and it is really starting to get to me. I spent most of today feeling like I would be physically sick because it was all too much. I think its just the general overwhelm of big job married to big job, two kids, one of whom has some additional needs, and some parent medical issues that I have to actively manage from far away (I’m an only child, parent has no family in this country). We already outsource pretty much everything. So what do you do when this happens? There is no end in sight for the work chaos. It might get better in 2024 but I’m not confident of that. Ugh.
Anon says
I’m sorry you’re going through this. I don’t think there are easy answers and as you said you can’t outsource everything, especially as kids grow up. Two big jobs and kids is just really difficult. If you’re at the point where you’re feeling physically sick from the stress, I would think about whether you and/or your partner can take a step back from work. No job is worth risking your health.
Anon says
I’m sorry you’re struggling. I was in a similar situation: spouse has a big job with zero flexibility; I had a big job and scaled back to part time and it was still tough with two littles (one with two manageable but time consuming health issues) and no village (tried to outsource things but as you know, there is only so much that money can buy). I was physically ill from the stress: skin was doing crazy things, unexplainable cough and chest pains. I recently resigned. Life is still crazy but my physical symptoms are gone. This was the right decision for our family, and may or may not be for yours.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. A bit more outsourcing on the parent care could provide some relief.
If the parent is in a major metro area, an elder care consultant might be of help (and helped me tremendously!). If not, I’ve heard of a retired nurse helping with this kind of thing on an ad hoc basis in a smaller city where I have family. I don’t know how to find such a person other than by word of mouth, though.

I never thought it would happen to me: my husband decided to start a home improvement project 3 hours before we have houseguests coming!

This made me laugh. I hope your day wasn’t too chaotic!
