Washable Workwear Wednesday: Ruffle Henley Shell

You all know from reading here that I am a fan of high collars with ruffle detail, and this top is right in my wheelhouse. I love how the collar stands up on its own but doesn’t look high enough to distract or bother you.

I am partial to the navy blue version with the buttons blending in more, but the white with the creme/brown buttons is also great. It also comes in an orange check, but it looks like they only made that one in S, M, and L, while the other two colors are available in XXS–XXL. It comes in petite sizes as well. I’d love to wear any of these with a gold hoop earring!

The top is $54.50 but is currently on sale for 60% off at Ann Taylor, which brings it down to only $21.80. Ruffle Henley Shell

Am I being ridiculous?

Husband and I are going for a night away (easy hour drive away, basically going to be sitting on a lake drinking coffee). Our 3 kids (0,2,4) will be staying overnight with grandparents – the older two with one set, the baby with the other side.

We’re driving up on a Friday night. Husband wants to drop the kids off Thursday evening and then pick them up Sunday morning. I want to drop them off Friday morning and pick them up Sunday.

Husband – who is normally very agreeable – is REALLY frustrated and feels like I’m not prioritizing ‘us’. I feel like 3 nights with the 2 year old (specifically) is a lot and I’m not sure I want to be away from them for that long. Am I being ridiculous? (Note that husband travels for work so for him, leaving the kids is NBD, he does it all the time.)

has anyone purchased the ten littles shoes for their kids? i’m intrigued and thinking of ordering

First time mom of an almost 9-month old here. We live in Chicago, house has a detached garage, we drive kiddo to/from daycare. Kiddo is crawling, trying to stand. What sort of jacket and apparel does kiddo need for the fall, and how many? Similarly, what sort of jacket and apparel does kiddo need for the winter, and how many? Does she need boots/shoes? She has what I call “potato feet” (round feet and ankles that get welts from socks; we use Zutano booties for now). I know that we need stuff that will be carseat safe since we have to take kiddo out of her carseat and walk her in to daycare (vestibule), and we’ll want stuff that is warm enough to take her for stroller walks, etc. I just cannot seem to figure this one out. Kiddo wears a 12-month size in Carters and Hanna, 6-12 month size in Old Navy and Gap. Specific products or brand recommendations appreciated as well.

I posted in the spring about how we were considering going for a fourth kid despite pandemic (maybe even because of? I’ve realized we’re pretty happy hunkering down at home and my older kids do just fine without lots of extracurriculars)

We had one loss but now we’re pregnant and I have a feeling this one is going to stick (for one thing, I’m having early symptoms ugh!)

So anyways, that’s happening! I’m freaking out but I’ve done that every time we got pregnant, even with the most planned for and wanted baby it really throws you off! I’m hoping our house is a chaotic fun place to grow up and that my older kids love the baby and don’t resent the loss of attention. My oldest is going to be delighted – I do know that! She looooves being an older sister.

I really appreciate this board. Being able to bounce ideas and vents of you all is the best. And for today I just really wanted to tell someone this news – I think of y’all as my Internet friends and you are the first to know!

Lol, I just did a big fall clothes order for my 14-month old, bought mostly 18-24 month sizes. Turns our the clothes all fit well right now, so I probably need to go up a size for the actual fall, oops!

In another exciting update, I am now writing to y’all from my awesome new house! Moving is horrible, but I’m glad we’re here. Thanks for the encouragement six or so weeks ago! :)

I really like this top, but I don’t see any discount. Am I missing a code? At 21.80 I would definitely buy it, but full price at 54.50 is more than I want to spend on a top like this. Maybe the sale price doesn’t apply after labor day weekend?

Is there anywhere that sells monogrammed toddler socks that are just regular socks I can get my kid’s initials on, nothing fancy? It feels ridiculous putting id tags on socks for daycare.

Distance special ed preschool learning is not off to a great start. Teacher mixed up the email, so we’ve had no communication for a week (including the revised IEP, the link for today’s meeting, etc.). She apologized profusely, but still feels like we are super behind. Kiddo refused to engage at all, just grunted and hid, although by the end of the session she was at least warming up and running around like a crazy person showing her new teacher every toy she could find (not sure how much of an improvement that was). Kiddo is normally a lover of the video chats with family and with her previous therapist, so I think this is just new person nerves, but still super frustrating. And I was up until 3AM working and now have 6 hours of back to back calls today.

Saw your post the other day and didn’t get time to reply because, well, newborn & toddler. Thinking of you and sending positive vibes during this rough time!

It’s been a while since I checked in here, and I could use just a bit of support today: My birthday was this weekend, and my mom decided to throw me a family party on Friday afternoon. I’ve not-so-recently gone dairy free, and she has had a really tough time accepting the change. She made cupcakes that “didn’t have milk” but icing that was made from butter, which I realized after the first bite. I took the lactaid tabs, but they don’t completely ameliorate the after effects for me. So my actual birthday was accompanied by not so fun symptoms. My ex took the kids from Sat morning to Sun afternoon. I spent Monday getting the kids ready for their first day of in-person learning, which was yesterday. Yesterday was also my daughter’s 7th birthday. I took yesterday off to have plenty of time to get the kids to school, and do stuff for my daughter’s birthday (cake, decorations, wrapping presents, all that stuff). Then we had her family birthday party yesterday afternoon, which my ex attended. It was the first time he and I had been in the same room since early February, and only the third or fourth time since the divorce. My son has had a really rough time with the idea of and the actual transition back to school. He has ASD, so transitions, unknowns and changes to schedule are tough for him. Y’all – I’m exhausted. I want to just veg out with a Netflix marathon, but everyone is back at the office this week with ALL the questions.

I’m a first time mom, packing my hospital bag (35 weeks). What do I actually need? I feel like there are too many lists ranging from “pack almost nothing – just use the hospital’s stuff and have a carseat and going home outfits” to “here are 318 items you will need”.

Example: I know I need a going home outfit for baby. But do I also need outfits for the hospital? Swaddle blankets? Do babies tend to be able to reuse the same blanket for a few days or do they need a fresh one every day? We’re planning on 5 days hospital stay worst case scenario (relevant only b/c husband can’t leave to pick up more clothes, food, etc once we arrive due to Covid restrictions, so we need to bring anything we think we’ll need).

Day 2 of on-line school. Just got text message #2593018 from my ninth-grader. I guess now that she and her friends can’t whisper and make faces at each other during class, she has to text me with her running commentary? It’s kind of cute, but it is getting old. Hopefully tomorrow they’ll start teaching something besides “netiquette” and “how to use the on-line learning platform” so she actually has to pay attention.

Anyone care to share what your kid’s clothing budget is per season?

I just spent $650 on my baby and toddler for fall and winter. Typically I only do big hauls twice a year because we don’t have 4 seasons, just mild hit and mild cold.

I shopped Hanna and Gap’s Labor Day sales and everything was 40-50% off but it still feels like a lot. This is my first big haul for both so it was sticker shock.

I read some random threads that skewed heavily toward consignment shops and Target. The budget was like so low but I’m wondering the norm for this site.

Approx $600 a year for one kid.

Relevant factors:
This amount has held steady for the last few years but I feel like it might go up a bit once she’s completely out of the 5T/borderline toddler sizing, which will happen some time this year.
I like to buy a more expensive jacket in a size up that lasts a couple of years.
I buy a lot of boutique clothes on consignment (typically pay $20-35 per dress). Kiddo loves dresses and so do I. She wears (what people not from the south would consider) absurdly fancy clothes on a near daily basis. She does have some target and Hanna stuff mixed in too.
I have gotten a variety of hand me downs from a friend of mine for the past few years.
Snow related items/serious outerwear are not relevant here.
She doesn’t have a ton of shoes– 2-3 pairs per season, which will include $2 a pair old navy flip flops in the summer.
