MoMa - Pear Pod Multifunctional Desktop Organizer

MoMA Design Store always has the most unique finds, like this pear-shaped desktop organizer.

Inside this petite organizer is plenty of room for pencils, pens, paperclips, and other essentials. You can even use it to serve snacks like cookies and crackers. Instead of an apple for the teacher, why not a pear?

This desktop organizer is $28 ($25.20 if you’re a member).

Anyone else feeling a little burned out by how Halloween has become a multi-week event instead of one night? We’ve already had two Halloween parties, a Girl Scouts Halloween event, our town’s Halloween festival, Zoo Boo, and a week of school dress up days, and the actual holiday is still a week away! It is all fun individually but cumulatively it’s just a lot. It feels like it’s almost become as much as the winter holidays.

book reading light suggestions for kids who share a room? i’d like each one to have one in case they want to stay up reading and their sibling is ready for bed.

Advice on how to solo-parent an infant and a toddler? I’m looking seriously at divorce but I’m very intimidated by the hands-on challenges. Particularly getting them both out the door to daycarebinnthe morning, and bath times in the evening.

Another question about gifts for daycare/preschool teachers: there are typically two teachers per class, and for the holidays we usually give DS’ teachers $100 each, plus $80 for each aide. DS is now in his last year at preschool and the teachers in this classroom are different than his previous teachers – they have masters’ degrees in early childhood education and probably have more employment opportunities but choose to work as preschool teachers even though the pay is low. I know working in early education is a calling, but for them it feels even more so. And giving them cash as a gift doesn’t feel right, like it would almost be insulting. Does that make sense? Should we give them cash anyway, or a tangible gift, or something else?

My 13 month old is moving to the young toddler class at daycare soon, and I’m wondering if and how much of a gift to give her infant classroom teachers. She has been at the daycare since early February. The lead teacher has been the same the whole time, and the current assistant teacher started in July.

If it’s relevant, the PTA collects funds for teacher holiday gifts. All the funds are then divided among the teachers, so each teacher gets the same amount. My daughter moving classrooms doesn’t impact how much her current teachers will get for a holiday gift.

I’m thinking of getting my almost-2 year old a Tonie or Yoto box for her birthday, or even just a way to play music if I could find something that doesn’t require screens. She loves music and I think would like to play stuff in her room or when playing, but I don’t want her on our phones. Is she too young for those? Those boxes also kind of seem like a racket bc you have to keep buying characters or cards. If you have one, how long did your kids use them?

I find it hilarious that with iPhones and Spotify we’ve complicated something that was very simple 30 years ago. My mom asked if she should get DD a CD player and I laughed because we don’t have CDs, but something like that is exactly what I want.
