Mango - Structured jacket with buttons

If you’re a cropped jacket person in a world of oversized blazers, here’s your next find.

This versatile, structured jacket has a straight silhouette, shirt-style collar, and hits right at the waist. I especially like the long cuffed sleeves. Wear it with the matching pants for a modern suit or on its own with dark wash jeans for casual Fridays.

This jacket is available at Mango for $99.99 and comes in sizes XS-XXL.

Where are we getting cotton Halloween costumes from for toddlers? I have a kid whose eczema does not get along with polyester and even the expensive costumes are polyester! I can do black pants / black top / face paint cat whiskers or whatever, but I think the toddler will want a “real costume” like their older siblings.

We’re doing a Girl Scouts outing to a paint-your-own pottery place, and we’ll have the party room for 2 hours. I don’t think painting is going to take that long, so I’m looking for a few other activity ideas. Most of my go-to activities are arts and crafts, but I feel like it would be good to balance the painting out with something else. (On the other hand, they are a very artsy group — the painting was a near-unanimous choice of outing – so maybe we should lean into it.) They’re in first and second grade. Any suggestions?

How do you respond when your kids say they hate school? My kindergartener has been really negative about school when we talk at the end of the day. I’m not in panic mode about it, because he happily goes into class at the start of the day and I know he generally likes his friends and his teachers. But he has a lot of complaints about what they’re learning, how they’re learning, and the word “hate” comes up a lot. For example, he says they’ve been using songs as memory devices in some lessons, and apparently he hates that because he hates singing. He has told me multiple times that he hates everything except playing Star Wars at recess. Anyone have a good script for helping him shift his mindset? We’re in OT for moderate dyslexia, so I think that’s part of it (the lessons are sometimes hard, so he shuts down). But the problem feels broader than that and I want to change the narrative somehow.

My SIL announced she’s planning to dress the same as my 3 year old for Halloween. I’m solo on Halloween and my SIL and MIL will be over. I don’t super love them but it will be very helpful to have them on Halloween. Daycare has a Halloween parade in the afternoon that they’ll attend as well. I don’t plan to dress up but I feel like it’s weird SIL will wear a costume to match my daughter. Is it weird? SIL has a good heart (and no children) but also has a history of overstepping. Looking for objective opinions since I know I’m a bit sensitive given her history.

I posted a few weeks ago that my MIL watches my 3 kids all night through their video monitors. Mostly I’ve been covering the monitors with blankets but I forgot a few times. She was over this weekend and commented that I put my daughter to bed “kind of late” the night before and also made note of what book we had read. I told her it’s super weird that she watches us and it makes me uncomfortable. Her response was that she just loves “her” babies sooooo much and just looooooves to see them.
I unplugged the monitors. I know she won’t change and I really can’t stand being spied on in my own house.

What kind of medical professional do I need to see for this? I have a discomfort in my upper back that is usually fine, but at least once a day, moves into the “god damn it” pain category. The pain is basically in/under my left shoulder blade. I feel it (a lot, and it hurts) if I put my chin to my chest. I am unaware of a specific incident that caused this. Grief internet surgeries

I would prefer to not see a chiropractor (I’ve heard too many horror stories), but is this a spine doctor? Physical therapist? Can you see a physical therapist without a referral forms some sort of surgeon (I’ve only seen one after lower spine surgery many, many years ago)? I’ve had several massages and they don’t seem to help at all.

It’s been going on long enough that I need to see someone, I just don’t know where to start. Any thoughts are appreciated.

We’re throwing a cocktail party for my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. It’ll be in December, so kind of a hybrid holiday anniversary party. Any tips or ideas? We’re hosting at home. I already have three caterer quotes lined up so it’s getting real!
