I am working on a college campus this week, and the number of Goyard totes I am seeing carried by students is mind-blowing. Are they fake? If not, where are college students getting the money?

Is brain fog when dropping nursing/pumping sessions a thing? I have horrible brain fog today and I just dropped from 5 to 4 pumping sessions per day. Any way to ease the symptoms?

I’m looking for a nightlight that can start off fairly bright and gradually dims to a low level over an hour to 90 minutes. My 3 year old after 9 months of not napping has started napping at preschool and is now staying up until 10:30/ 11pm ish. I was hoping to give her a way to play quietly in her room for the first hour without the overhead light and have it slowly fade in the hope she would “fade” too and go to sleep. I think she is tired enough to sleep by 9pm ish but isn’t falling asleep because she has the overhead light on.

Has anyone been able to schedule the Covid vaccine for their kids this season?

I need all the good vibes (please, please, please) for my awesome daughter today. She is doing something huge for her, and I’m so nervous/excited for her that I cannot concentrate. Please, if you have it in you, send out all the good luck and good vibes to a kid who deserves the world, and is going for it today <3

Our new school uses ClassDojo, and I just signed up for it. There is a free version, but it keeps prompting me to sign up for the paid version — does anyone know if this is useful for anything? Worth the $60/yr?

Looking for a battery operated (rechargable or not) for our kids’ bathroom. I’d like something that’s bright enough that they won’t have to turn on the big light at all, or at least not until they’ve closed the bathroom door. It’s tough to know online what would be bright enough, so hoping someone has a personal recommendation!

We have an adorable, sweet golden retriever puppy who is ~7 months old. We just got him on Sunday, so it’s all very new, although DH and I have had this breed before and know what to do(ish). Older kid is a huge animal lover, and totally leaning in to all things dog care/play.

My 4.5 year old likes the dog from afar, but doesn’t like when the dog comes in his space unexpectedly, and will yell at him or scream, like out of surprise. At times, he also gets annoyed/scared of the dogs louder toys. I understand this because I grew up terrified of dogs until I was much older. To be fair, kid can also be super sweet to dog, too, and he is generally interested in the dog (especially when he can boss him around). Any suggestions to help keep the peace? I feel like time will help here, since we’re all adjusting.

And there’s definitely always an adult overseeing when dog/kids are together.

Ugh, I feel like this year is just wack-a-mole parenting amidst a higher ed sector on fire – solve one issue, and another pops up. My university is dithering on signing a contract to allow me to start my secondment, and my class sizes have exploded. The academic term hasn’t even started and I’m already exhausted.

We had to call the head teacher because he came home with injuries from being attacked by a girl on the playground. That seems resolved for now, but then my son told me at bedtime that he doesn’t feel like a boy?! I genuinely don’t think he’s having actual gender identity issues – but the boys in his school want to fight, talk about Fortnite, and play football, while he likes Lego, books, and climbing trees? He probably needs to be less sensitive to these dynamics, but why in 2025 is everything still ballet slippers or football boots?

I need a pep talk :( Or a sally slowworm to count down until Christmas/my sabbatical.

Ugh I had to stay home from work for 3 days last week because my kid was sick, and our new RTO policy prohibits working from home, so I was fully offline. Now I’m back in the office but I’m sneezing and coughing — but if I take any more sick leave I may have to reassign some of my projects. Whyyy did we get rid of telework when it made everything so much easier???

California parents – what are you doing about the private preschool vs. universal TK question for four-year-olds, assuming you have a financial choice? I’ve been hearing some mixed things about how to make the decision and what the logistics end up looking like. I have a friend whose daughter just started TK and she says that because her daughter is dropped off at before-care and picked up from after-care (which not all schools even have), it’s been near-impossible to actually speak to the teacher. She also said that there are no Spanish-speaking students in her daughter’s class, despite the proportion in the neighborhood being 30-40%.

We have some time to make the decision “officially” (baby is almost 1), but we’re considering moving so we’re very much trying to make sure we’re aware of the options/layout of TK at the schools in the area we’re considering. Our priorities are tons of playtime/no worksheets and all-day care options so we’re not cobbling together enough coverage for the workday.
