I am trying to break myself of the #1 bad habit mentioned in the muse article – checking my email before bed (or even worse, in bed). Short of running out and driving to my office, there is usually nothing I can do about the items in my email – they pretty much all involve tasks that have to be done during business hours. So finding out that something is screwed up that I’m going to have to fix tomorrow is just going to mean I get a bad night’s sleep stressing about it, and I still have to deal with it in the morning. That has happened at least 3 times in the past 2 weeks, and I’m trying to break that pattern.
For me, the #1 easiest way to stop it is to take the link to my work email off my front screen of my smartphone. I can still check my work email from my phone, but now it’s 3 or 4 clicks, not one mindless one. So far, so good, we’ll see how long it lasts.
