Some of the articles of interest to working mothers that we’ve seen around the web recently…
- The New York Times gives some guidance on how to deal with your hair as a new mom, while Refinery29 has a counterpoint to their take on “mom hair.”
- Real Simple shares some shaving tips just in time for summer.
- PBS NewsHour looks at the cost of a parent temporarily leaving the workforce to care for a child — and also at the Center for American Progress’ child care calculator, where you can enter your information to “learn how much the failing child care system in the United States could cost you.”
- As The New York Times reports, new research seems to show that happiness depends less on whether or not you’re a parent, but on the extent to which your country supports parents and families. And speaking of support, the NYT has an opinion piece by Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant that says “catty” women and “queen bees” are less common at work than people think.
- In New York magazine’s Science of Us, Cari Romm ponders parent-child friendships.
- A Hellobee blogger wonders how to tell if you should say something to another mom about an aspect of her parenting — or if you ever should.
- NPR reports on a study that looks at the differences between kindergarten in 1998 and 2010 (although it notes that there are many factors at play).
- For your Laugh of the Week, The Onion once again nails attitudes toward working moms.

OP says
When I stay home with my son I get a lot of things done. I do laundry, take out the trash, run erroneous, do dishes etc. My husband claims when he stays home with our son that he doesn’t nap and he just fusses. He gets absolutely nothing done, not even dirty dishes in the sink.
Thoughts? Child is 2. Not breastfed. Quite an independent toddler.
