Oooh: hat tip to Kate for this delicious find: Michael Stars is now doing scarves, which (to me at least) is new. And what scarves they are: bright, colorful, happy, with interesting patterns and color combinations. I’m liking this “Scattered Mandalas” wrap the best, but it’s tough to choose. I’d wear it as a scarf by day, a wrap by night, and even a light pareo if you have some casual pooltime in your future. The pictured scarf is $48. Please tell me my b**b size will decrease when I’m finished nursing. They’re out of hand, dare I say massive! I’m 5 months pp, so I’m not dealing with early engorgement. They were fairly big before pregnancy, but nothing like this. I’m praying they get smaller when this stage is over. Any hope that’s true?
NewMomAnon says
I’m not fully done nursing (night and morning only, no pumping) but I think I went from a 34B prepregnancy, to something very much larger while pregnant (I was wearing XL sports bras because I just gave up), to a 36C while nursing, to a negative A cup now….pretty sure I’m concave at this point. So yes, you could find that you deflate significantly when you’re done nursing.
New Mom says
Dont have the answer but I can commiserate! 4 months pp and rocking a G cup, where I was a D before. None of my old clothes will fit if my chest doesnt shrink back!
AEK says
I have no idea— someone else will, I’m sure— but this just really made me marvel at the variations in people’s bodies, even after a common experience like pregnancy. Mine didn’t really change; I am still barely filling out my B-cups (I’m also 5 months pp)! Can I ask if having giant *boobs* correlates with more supply? I read that it doesn’t mean much, but at a certain point, there either is, or is not, somewhere for more milk to reside, right? It’s hard not think that my struggle to keep pace with pumping is at least somewhat attributable to being un-endowed.
Out of Hand says
I had an oversupply during the first three months. Not a ton, about an extra 10 ounces per day. Then I was hit with a few illnesses in a row, and my supply decreased but my b**b size stayed the same. I’ve also read that there’s not a correlation.
Edited to add that I’m sorry you’re struggling with supply. As I learned post-illness, it’s incredibly frustrating. Hang in there!
Maddie Ross says
From what I know, and from my personal experience, I’d say it’s unrelated. I had the over-supply to end all over-supplies (from the time I went back to work, I only pumped once a day and stopped pumping at work at 8 months, but had enough of a stash to last through 10.5 months). Over-supply is actually not a great issue – it takes longer to get to the fatty hindmilk and my daughter was a slow gainer as a result. All of this said, I was an A pre-pregnancy, a borderline B/C while nursing, and am back to an A now.
Katarina says
Mine went more or less back to normal, but only went down a few weeks after I completely weaned. They more or less went completely back to normal, without sagging, which I think I deserved after having giant b**bs for pregnancy and nursing. I am pretty sure larger b**b size is not correlated with a better milk supply, although I think a lack of b**b changes during pregnancy might be somewhat correlated to less production (it does not have to be a size change, though, a size or shape of n*pple change also counts).
rty says
Mine did. 34C before baby, 34 G+ while nursing, lost a ton a weight nursing (20 lbs below pre-preg weight) so when I weaned they shrunk to a small 34 B. Baby is now 16 months, weight and bra size back to pre-preg levels. Bodies are weird and marvelous.
Msj says
After nursing I have so much more empathy for you well endowed women! I have always been pretty flat and as a teen would have killed for my current DDs. But it’s such a pain to dress. Many of my more tailored dresses don’t fit (also not practical for pumping) , I constantly need to be on the lookout for inappropriate cleavage, the necklines of my shirts rarely work with my larger bras – particularly my awesome but necessarily high necked running bra, and I don’t know how to dress this more top heavy silhouette without looking larger overall. I fear that I will enter into the world of the concave once I wean, which is also not a look I’m looking forward to, but I would be very excited to go back to my pre-pregnancy bust!
I’ve heard there is no correlation btwn bust size and milk supply, but I did go up quite a few cup sizes and have been able to EBF twins and even build up a freezer supply (until I scaled back to once a day work pumping a few weeks back).

I’m busty (D/DD cup). Mine went back to their pre-pregnancy size for the most part. I would have loved for them to shrink more, but it didn’t work out for me. My rib cage expanded during pregnancy and never went back down.
POSITA says
I’m 21 months PP and just managed to fit my boobs into a prepregnancy dress today for the first time. I stopped nursing about 2 months ago and my boobs have shrunk substantially since then.
They definitely shrunk when I stopped pumping at 12 months, but I was surprised how much they shrunk after stopping completely. I was down to 1-2 short nursing sessions per day for the past 9 months or so. But actually stopping completely dropped me more than another full cup size.
Out of Hand says
Thanks for the replies…you’re all giving me hope! If they shrink below my pre-pregnancy size like some of yours did, I’m throwing a party.
Lilipad says
So mine were huge prepregnancy, then got huger while nursing, and then shrank to a size or two below my prepregnancy size *but* are saggy and deflated-looking (still big, maybe E-size). I seriously think I may get a reduction and lift once I am all done with child production.
EB0220 says
After my first, mine went back to pre-pregnancy size (but a slightly different shape). In my case, I like the nursing b**bs and will be sad when they go back to A/B normal.

So while researching breast pumps, I was reminded of the story shared by my wedding photographer and wanted you all to have a laugh. She used to teach at a private school, and one day the principal hauled all of the female teachers into a meeting and lectured them about a complaint he had received from a student teacher, that someone was “pleasuring themselves” in the women’s bathroom. While yelling at them, a woman raised her hand and said “um, could it have been my breast pump?” Frankly, the pumps I’ve heard sound nothing like an assistive device, but that story cracked me up and made me thankful I won’t have to pump in a bathroom stall.

you asked yesterday re: European formulas. In case you are an everyday reader, here’s my response:
My child is allergic to dairy and soy and I feed her Neocate Infant with DHA and ARA. it is made in the UK, but you can get it through a Maryland distributor (I buy through Aamzon). It works well for her.
Emily says
Thank you! I had heard of this one, but did not realize it was from the UK. Looks better than Nutramigen.
