When I was nursing and pumping, I had an towering stack of camis like these.
Layer these lightweight camis under cardigans, jackets, and button-front shirts for easy nursing or pumping access. These camis have adjustable straps, clip-down access, and a lightly lined shelf bra for coverage (although I usually wore a nursing bra underneath).
Wear this soft, stretchy modal knit top during your pregnancy as well.
Gap’s Maternity Nursing Layering Cami is $44.95 full price, but you today can take 40% off at checkout. It comes in XXS–XXL and five neutral colors.

I had SO many of these. I needed a nursing bra as well for the first six weeks or so but once everything settled down I could get away with wearing them on their own. Great with a flannel over it. When i traveled I would often wear one with a light long-sleeved shirt over it — pull shirt up to nurse and you are totally covered (I’m generally fine with nursing in public but sometimes like some extra coverage for planes when I might be sitting VERY close to a stranger).
Boston Legal Eagle says
I had tons of these too. Convenient to not have to take your whole shirt off when nursing.
Anon says
Do people take the shirt fully off? I just lifted it up.
anon says
It depends on the shirt. Some pull up better than others.
Tanks are nice to keep your stomach to stay warm and covered. I was still squishy in my midsection for a long time and I loved how tanks kept it concealed. I also appreciated that they blocked winter drafts.

5 years later and i still sleep in these tanks

Boston area folks or those who have travelled here, especially with older kids, what are some suggestions for things to do on the Cape with an older kid set? We’ve gone before, but the kids were smaller, and we mostly stuck to the beaches and water park (which we’ll do again). But now our kids are older and especially the older one, can do more adventurous activities. I’m thinking we’ll check out the Cape bike trail at least one of the days. Should we try kayaking?
Anon says
I think kayaking would be fun. My early elementary kid likes hiking and playing mini golf on vacation (I think there’s a Pirate’s Cove on the Cape? We go there in Maine and it’s very fun). Aquarium/natural history museum? Boat trips like sailing or whale watching? Looking for starfish at low tide? I’m basically just listing things we do in Maine lol but I feel like a lot of the same things apply to the Cape.
Anonymous says
How old is older? Mine are 5-10. We do mini gold, bumper boats, go karts, beaches on the outer came when no sharks, ride the rail trail, pirate cruise in Falmouth, daytrip to the vineyard and bike.
If it’s rainy we like the pirate museum in Yarmouth, the national seashore museum, head out to a lighthouse- you can do Nauset and the 3 sisters together or go up in Highland.
We usually stay in Dennis or Chatham so my ideas are more mid-cape.
When we go for two weeks we do more activities but when we are only down for one we are on the beach unless it’s nasty weather.
Unless your kids are tweens and older the drive in is too late. Movies start at dark (around 8pm).
Anon says
I’ve taken my 5 year old to outdoor movies that start at 8… some kids can handle an occasional late night.
Anonymous says
Yup. Just a warning bc these are just like, 8:30ish-10:30ish then you have to drive home bc the drive in is up in wellfleet. Unless you stay in wellfleet!
Anonymous says
Oops the pirate thing is in Hyannis, not Falmouth. We did this with kids ages 4,6 & 9. They all had tons of fun. The 9 year old was on the older side but *not* too old. I wouldn’t book it for a family of say, 9,12 and 15 year olds though.
https://capecodpirateadventures.com/
We’ve also taken bikes on the ferry to the vineyard and done a looong bike ride (14 miles or so round trip). We rode from oak Bluffs to Edgartown and stopped at Bad Marthas on the way back for dinner.
Anon says
Check out the National Sea Shore activity calendar, there are a ton of ranger-led activities that are geared towards the outdoors (https://www.nps.gov/caco/ranger-guided-activities.htm). There’s also plenty of mini-golf, summer baseball league games, whale watches, boating excursions and the Wellfleet Drive-in, all of which might be interesting to an older kiddo. And a big yes to kayaking and maybe paddle boarding – if it’s your first time or the kids are skittish, go out on Nantucket Sound where the water is calmer.
Anon says
I love the rail trail! Depending on your family’s stamina, you could spend just about a whole day doing that, and there are some nice lunch/ice cream stops along the way.
I’d consider a ferry ride to the Vineyard or a day trip to Provincetown (if you’re staying somewhere reasonably nearby, traffic can be terrible this time of year).
anon says
Day trip to oak bluffs!
GCA says
If you’re planning ahead for next summer…go camping! Book a campsite at Nickerson as soon as registration opens, because those fill up fast, and rent a canoe at Flax Pond. Bring your bikes, explore the rail trail, stop at JT’s in Brewster for seafood and ice cream. Venture down to Woods Hole and Falmouth, and visit the little public aquarium and Pie in the Sky in Woods Hole. Day trip to the Vineyard from Hyannis. And of course, water park :)

We’re going on a short flight soon with my crawling/pulling to stand baby and toddler. We’ve only been on one flight before with the toddler and that went mostly okay. We’ve got a double travel stroller and are planning to check one large bag with most of our stuff and then carry on a pump, pumped milk, snacks, toys, backup clothes etc. honestly will likely need two backpacks which will probably be full. I’m considering using my cheapy pump bag plus a small backpack then my husband can have a second pack. That way the pump can just go in the overhead right away. Toddler will get to use tablet that is reserved for travel. I think baby will be harder to wrangle. I will bring a carrier for once we gate check the stroller. Does this sound generally right? What else should I be thinking of? Anything you can recommend to entertain the baby? Thank you!!
anon says
How old is the baby? We had a lot of luck entertaining our 7-11 mo baby with stacking cups and puffs or cheerios to munch. Hide the puffs and cheerios under a cup on the tray table. Let them find the snack in a peek-a-boo game.
Anon says
at that age mine loved playing with tupperware and i had a plastic bottle with stuff for them to put in and take out (like container transfer)
OP says
8 months and doesn’t have pincer grasp so I haven’t tried cheerios or puffs but I will before we go. Thank you!
Anonymous says
The baby just goes plop on your lap and spends the whole flight trying to eat your hair. The toddler plays with an ipad.
GCA says
Pretty much this. At least, this is how we always did it. If it’s naptime for the baby, wear the baby!
Anonymous says
Since they’re a crawling baby, they might not be content to plop. I know my girl hates to sit still now she knows she can get around.

We are planning a trip to Spain next summer and wanted to explore a more organized family tour kind of option. Kids will be 6 & 8. Does anyone have recommendations of organizations to look into?
The kiddos are high energy and relatively adventurous.
Anon says
Depending where you’ll be, Spain has world-class rock climbing. Maybe look for a guided day out? They may also have via ferratas, which would be great for adventurous kids.
Anon says
I would book some active day tours like climbing or kayaking, but would not do an organized bus tour with company-arranged accommodations and meals. That kind of tour will be mind-numbingly boring for kids this age, and you’ll likely overpay for mediocre hotels and meals. Spain is very easy to travel in independently, and the Spanish love kids and have a higher tolerance for kid noise & energy than Americans do.
Anon says
Are you looking for tours that will have other families on them or something organized just for your family that will have good kid activities?

my 5 year old twins are going to be the flower girls in my sil’s wedding next month and i just learned that they will have their hair done at 2pm, be needed for pictures from 4:30-6, and then the ceremony is 6:30-7. i need ideas for non messy snacks and things to feed them
Anonymous says
Bless you this sounds like a nightmare. Goldfish? Cheese sticks? Apple slices sans pb? Surely after photos they can have a substantial snack to tide them over until dinner (which sounds like it’s going to be LATE). Maybe get them art smocks to put on while they eat? On the other hand, of the whole bridal party is doing photos before, hopefully dinner will be served immediately after the ceremony.
Lily says
Don’t get them dressed in their fancy dresses until 4:30 and for the hair appointment, have them wear play clothes (such as shorts and a stretchy tank that can go on from the bottom, or a button up dress) they can step out of (hopefully they can step into the fancy dresses). If they can eat right at 7, I’d give them a heavy snack at 4:15 before they get dressed. Agree with the suggestion for cheese sticks, plain or pretzel goldfish, etc. (nothing with cheese dust, like cheddar goldfish or cheez-its, that will be hard to get off their fingers). If they are starving after pics, and can’t wait for the dinner, change them out of their dresses back into their play clothes for 30 mins before ceremony starts (they could also run around/blow off some steam during this time).
OP says
edited to add, we are flying in for the wedding on a Friday, so I need to travel with all of these snacks, so i probably can only bring things that are non-perishable. also, do i just sit them in front of a screen in between hair and pictures adn then pictures and the ceremony? they will have watched all day friday on the plane, and are the kind of kids who dont do the best with too too much screen time. and then have to get them to agree to go back to the hotel mid wedding with my dad while DH and I stay at the wedding. i also need to pray that they sleep friday and saturday night bc they are not good hotel sleepers but are a hot mess express without sleep
anonamommy says
Can you have someone at the wedding destination (if anyone lives locally) pick up snacks that you order from Target or Walmart? That would at least save you some hassle.
My daughter was in something similar at 6. Agree with the suggestions to put them in button-up shirts until the very last minute. We actually stayed a little longer than her hair appt and she enjoyed watching some of the bridesmaids get their hair worked on. I’d also think about some sort of non-messy craft activity like making bead bracelets, coloring, play-doh etc could be good for a bit. Maybe play an audiobook or podcast while they do it to engage their brains.
As for leaving the wedding mid-party – get a small trinket or stuffie and wrap it in wrapping paper (one for each of them). Show them at the hotel before they leave for the wedding, say it’s a present for the end of the night and they’ll get it when they get back with your dad. Build it up. When it’s time to go, they’ll be excited about finding out what’s in the present and it will help distract them from leaving all the fun.
OP says
that is brilliant re the trinket/stuffie waiting for them back at the hotel. thanks for that idea! my MIL is like oh they can just stay at the wedding until it ends at midnight….um, if she would like to be responsible for flying with the girls on a 4 hour flight the next day, then sure, she can keep them up until midnight…
Anonymous says
11am- early lunch
1pm- filling snack
2pm- hair done, have munchies available. Do hair in a button up outfit so they can get out easily.
4pm- early dinner (whatever they will eat that is convenient. For my kids, this would be chik fil a nuggets and mac and cheese)
4:15- put on fancy dresses
6pm- snack like string cheese or maybe a vanilla yogurt in a pouch (my 5 year old could eat this neatly but YMMV, and NOT a go gurt squeeze!)
OP says
appreciate the timeline suggestions! i don’t think i’ll be able to get string cheese or chick fil a bc we wont have a car at the destination, so i can’t go pick up perishable food. and now DH just told me he has to go out of town for work for the week the next day. i love solo parenting our dysregulated children for a week after a weekend away right after the kids have started at a new school during my busiest work season.

Uber eats and instacart! Don’t forget those options. Will save you a ton of time / headache.
OP says
as i have never used either (i’m cheap!), i always forget about them!
Anonymous says
Grub hub, instacart, uber eats. This is a thing! Pick their faves and make them show up. Or have someone local buy it or loan you a car. Surely your relatives can figure something out.
NYCer says
+1. The day will go much smoother if you are not just relying on non-perishable snacks.
Anon says
Oof! Any chance he can say no to the work trip? I understand that’s super company dependent, but I think it’s very fair to be NOT HAPPY about it after traveling for his family’s wedding.
OP says
I wish. He is scheduled to present to 400 people
HSAL says
Don’t worry about mess, just throw an adult’s button up over their dress. Feed them whatever will keep them happy over that long day, and don’t stress. We had a wedding where my 5 year old and barely 3 year old were flowers girls and the 3 year old boy was a ring bearer. It was fine and they had an amazing day.
Elle says
First time mom, I have a work trip planned for week 29 of my pregnancy. My doctor has said I should be fine to travel until week 36. Should I ask work to pay the extra ~$100 for the refundable ticket or do I just book a normal ticket?
Anon says
Ask HR. But I just booked a normal ticket (my last travel was at 32-33 weeks, uncomplicated pregnancy although “high risk” b/c old and IVF)
Anon says
I would just book the refundable ticket and ask forgiveness if needed.
OOO says
I agree, the refundable ticket is the responsible choice. Your employer would probably be more annoyed if you didn’t request the refundable ticket but you are no longer able to make the trip. My friend was prescribed bed rest at around 29 weeks, so those sorts of things happen.
Anonymous says
Ask HR I guess- but in my corporate job, our tickets were all “refundable” in that we got a credit to the airline. Which would be fine in your case- just use it when you get back.
Anon says
This is true for my company too. They get credit that can be used with another employee.
Anon says
This is true of almost all airline tickets post-Covid. Just don’t buy basic economy.
Anonymous says
agree but HR wouldn’t know in my company. We have a global T&E policy and a T&E mailbox by region that you email with these types of questions.
In my company policy is always to book the cheapest with preferred airlines – we have corporate contracts with them so any unused tickets just come back as a credit.
Your corporate T&E card may also have protections – like when I side swiped a parking garage doorway in Italy, it was all covered even though I declined the rental insurance as instructed per our policy.
Your company may also have emergency travel protections – we have a 1-800 number to call and we will be evacuated (at no cost to us) from wherever we are in event of medical emergency, war/uprising, natural disaster, etc.
Anon says
A lot of credit cards have rental protections now. We got reimbursed in full for alleged damage while on family trip to Spain (I didn’t get in an accident but they claimed the car had a scratch).

Has anyone done the Disney Cruise around Halloween leaving out of NY? Wondering how much pool time is actually feasible during the at sea days at that time of year from that port.

How far south do you go? If only to Bermuda, the pool is likely pretty iffy. (Unless there’s an indoor pool of course.)
OP says
Yes, just to Bermuda.

you know what is worse than organizing summer camps, coordinating after school activities in conjunction with speech, OT, etc. and for multiple kids. all of my daughter’s preschool friends (who are going to different kindergartens) are doing dance together on Tuesdays so I signed her up, figured I’d be able to try to switch her OT day, but her beloved OT who we’ve been with for two years is not available after school on any other day, other than the one when her sister needs to be at her therapy, etc. i am SO stressed. and even though all these therapies are meant to help my kids I feel terribly that they have to miss out on other things
Anonymous says
It is the worst. I have 3 kids and they have had Fall 2023 planned since like, Feb of last year. Which makes me crazy since they change their minds (rightfully so!!) but it’s so hard to switch into things at this point in the game.
Just one snippet:
The Plan was:
3pm- kids off bus
3:25: kids all snacked and loaded into car
3:29: drop Kid #1 at piano lessons
3:30: drop Kid #2 at softball which is around the block from the piano studio
3:50: drop Kid #3 at musical theatre, which is about 10 minutes from softball/piano
4pm: pick up Kid #1 at piano
4:45pm: pick up Kid #3 from Musical Theatre
5pm: Pick up Kind #2 at softball
Guess who got an email YESTERDAY that the piano teacher can no longer do in-studio lessons and has to do them at the student’s home? So now Kid #1 has to be home from 3:30-4pm (most presumably with an adult!) wrecking the entire plan. So now…piano has to either be 3-3:30 at our house, meaning RIGHT when the kids get off the bus, or another day entirely. This was my Designated Day for activities. Ugh.
Anonymous says
Can kid one just be home with the teacher? That’s the same as dropping them off at the teacher’s
Anonymous says
Maybe, but it doesn’t really help. I’d have to run home to get her at 4pm (wrong direction from the rest of the stuff). And that’s if the teacher would even allow it, which is a big question mark.
Anon says
My piano teacher does not allow this, which has definitely put a wrinkle in my plans more than once (and my kids are *old*).
OP says
i can understand not wanting to be alone with your kid in the house from a liability perspective, though in some ways no diff than a babysitter. Who knows? I’m the OP and here is my dilemma. Twin A & B have dance on Tuesdays at 4:15 and Soccer on Thursdays at 4:15. Twin B used to have OT on Tuesdays at 4, but their whole preschool crew is doing dance together and I couldn’t let just Twin A do it, and the OT practice had said another day at 4 should be available with our therapist. Twin A has play therapy on Thursdays at 3, both twins do Speech and the only day the Speech therapist is available is on Wednesday, which is at the same time as a new OT (since our current one isn’t available then). The OT initially had availability on Thursdays at 4, but I said that wouldn’t work, because Twin A has therapy until 4, and I was trying to avoid getting involved in the schlepping (we have a wonderful nanny), but I guess I will see if that 4pm slot is still available, and I will then try to switch soccer to Wednesday and switch my work schedule on Thursdays so I can also schlep. Certain things were easier when they were babies…
Anonymous says
ooof, yours are more concurrent than mine, which seems great if everything goes to plan and very stressful if anything slips! I like your designated day for activities! Unfortunately all my kids have 2-days(+) a week activities this year, but they’re mostly consolidated on the same two days. Here’s one of ours:
3:45 Kid #1 walks home from school, hopefully does his homework while home alone
4:45 I pick up Kid #3 from after care at 4:45 and drive him to karate, which starts at 5
5:15 DH picks up Kid #1 from home and they go to hockey for the rest of the night (DH is the head coach)
5:30 Immediately when karate ends, I book it with Kid #3 back to school to pick up Kid #2 from aftercare, where hopefully she has changed into her ballet uniform and eaten a snack
6:00 Kid #2 dropped off at ballet, Kid #3 and I kill time for an hour and a half (walkable downtown area with library & a Whole Foods where we’ll likely grab dinner.)
7:30 Pick up Kid #2 from ballet and head home
8:30 lights-out target for Kids 2&3
8:45 DH and Kid #1 return, which is the optimal time to make sure kids 2&3 will get a second wind to talk to them
Commiseration with everyone playing this juggling game.

Does anyone else have foods they used to like/love that no longer seem appetizing due to constantly feeding it to your picky eater kids? For me, its roasted chickpeas. I think they are delicious but its one of the few protein sources my kid will eat and so we make it for her at least twice a week. As a result, I’ve developed a bit of an aversion to them which makes me sad because they are such an easy and healthy snack!

Yogurt sometimes ends up in this category for me.

Scheduled for an ECV to try and turn this breech baby around on Thursday! Anyone with any experiences/stories? (I’ve been trying Spinning Babies and a chiropractor without luck, but my OB feels like my chances with the version are good.)
NYC says
I did an ECV, and it did not work for me. They tried turning the baby both directions, but in both cases, they were concerned with her hear rate. There is lots of monitoring, and it felt completely safe. My doctor wasn’t overly optimistic going in though, because it was my first pregnancy, the baby had been breach for almost the entire time, and I had very muscular abs (LOL at a pregnant lady having muscular abs – my doc’s words, not mine!). I didn’t find it particularly painful, but it felt very WEIRD (granted it didn’t work, so maybe it would hurt more if it did). Ended up with a scheduled C-section, and it was great. Zero complaints and a very easy recovery. Just adding that last part in case your ECV is unsuccessful – it is not the end of the world. A scheduled C is much different than an emergency C.
Good luck!
Iris says
I had a successful ECV with my second pregnancy around week 38. She had flipped breach a week earlier while I was throwing up from food poisoning. Definitely get an epidural. The process was very physical, like, one or two doctors throwing their weight into moving the baby, and you don’t want your discomfort to get in the way of them finishing the attempt. I was nervous, but it was a pretty calm experience, and I then had a v delivery without complications after 40 weeks (9.5 lbs).
Anon says
I had a really smooth ECV with my first pregnancy. The drugs do feel pretty weird. For what ever reason, with all the drugs, the OB didn’t have to push too hard and my kiddo went right into place. I did end up going into labor a full week past my due date. Which I always wondered was maybe related to needing a ECV.
Something to keep in mind, I found out mid ECV process that my hospital’s policy was to be admitted if the ECV was unsuccessful. I was about 38 weeks though, so that might have had something to do with it. So you’ll want to have a hospital bag packed and your support partner kind of queued up that a hospital stay might immediately follow if it doesn’t go as expected.
NYC says
My hospital definitely didn’t require you to be admitted if it was unsuccessful, so OP I would just ask your doctor about that. My doctor was going to induce me if it was successful, but we never got that far. I went back 3 days later for the scheduled C section.
AwayEmily says
I don’t have experience but my baby was breech at 38 weeks and I had one scheduled (baby flipped just in time). From what I read, they tend to be more successful if you are medicated (so maybe ask about that beforehand and push for it if it’s not offered).

I just bought a pair of these. I’ve washed and line dried them according to the instructions, and they seem pretty wrinkled. Is that typical? Any insight on whether ironing or steaming would be best? I’m a little concerned that an iron will make them shiny/hurt the material. I’m surprised that they dried so wrinkly given all the positive reviews I’ve seen.
