I’ve written about my love for matching sets — they’re an easy way to feel put-together and comfy at the same time. Given our stay-at-home lifestyles, matching sets will be popular for a while, and those who are expecting can also partake in this trend.
Target was my go-to for maternity and nursing basics (think nursing camis), but I should have looked at them for their more fashionable wear.
Target’s Isabel Maternity by Ingrid & Isabel has some lovely pieces, including their Maternity Match Back Sweatshirt and coordinating Match Back Jogger Pants. They come in five spring-ready colors, including two fun (yet muted) tie-dye options.
This set would be equally perfect for lounging at home or running errands in style and comfort. Reviewers mention the sweatshirt runs small, so consider sizing up.
The sweatshirt and joggers are available in sizes XS–XXL. The sweatshirt is $24.99 and the matching joggers are $27.99.

Guess no one else is stuck working on this holiday! Both daycare and school are closed, but DH took a floating holiday to at least corral the preschooler. They’re going to drive to a small local airport to watch planes take off and land which is about the only covid-friendly activity we could think of today. The baby is in that magic age where he naps most of the workday and isn’t mobile and so I can pretty realistically ‘watch’ him while I work today.
I tried doing a busytoddler sticker activity the other day – the one she always has where the kids put the colored dots on the letters of their name – and LO rejected it. “But I don’t want to do that cuz I don’t want to cover up my name!” He traced the letters I’d written instead but that only occupied about 45 seconds of the weekend. Sigh.

hi Pogo! working here, too, but quickly approaching snow means I’ll have to do an early pickup and daycare closed tomorrow. LO is more of a ‘taby’ in busytoddler speak, so I’ll be building a youtube playlist of elmo/trucks/discofruit to get work done in 10 minute increments. Wait, that’s generous. Have you checked out Mothercould’s activities (instagram).

I was am going to do my first ever busytoddler activity today! (kids are at daycare but I am on my own with them this evening since my husband has to teach). I’m going to do the one where they have to find hidden post-its all over the house and match them to things on a poster.
Also driving to an airport is smart! In pre-COVID days we used to actually take them to the airport to hang out. Parking is free if you’re there for under an hour and there’s lots of room to run around, especially in the creepy “aviation museum” section that nobody ever goes to.

Don’t feel bad. My almost four year old has a full on meltdown over any busytoddler activity we have tried. They just do not mesh with her. She’s much happier doing a traditional pre-k workbook. I love busytoddler ideas but I have figured out that her kids play in a way that is different from my own. And they run their lives differently (they do one day a week on an adventure away from home vs my kids live to be in the woods every day)
Cb says
Oh my goodness, my toddler cries when I try to do anything the least bit educational. He can tell you all about animal habitats and identify all sorts of trains, and uses these hilariously advanced sentences but any sort of structured activities? Nope! Like yours, he just wants to be in the woods.

Also working!
My baby is also still at magic-baby age (4 months), which is why I didn’t lose my mind during our nanny search. I’ve been simultaneously back at work (from home – which was the case pre-pandemic anyway) and watching baby for the past five weeks. I’m actually going to miss it, and am a little sad about nanny starting tomorrow (although she’s fantastic and I feel so fortunate that we found a gem!) – but I also know that this would have changed REAL fast as soon as she’s mobile, ha! But I still have all the emotions about someone else getting to spend tomorrow with my daughter.
Pogo says
Aw, definitely let yourself feel the feelings! I also feel lucky I’ve had so much at home time w/ my second. Probably one of the only few good things about the pandemic…

Check out DaysWithGrey – I follow her stories on IG but I think there’s also a blog. She posts a lot of activities for 3 and 5 year olds, with ideas on how to adapt to make it easier or harder. We did the color sorting one and it took me 5 minutes to set up, and then occupied the kids for a good 20 minutes this morning.
Color Sort:
Gather a variety of toys in red yellow and blue. Tape down a piece of paper on the table, and color a red spot, yellow spot, blue spot. (For the 5 year old, draw a “graph” with red/yellow/blue). Have the kids sort by color. Then have them go find more toys of that color. Or find some green toys and add them to the paper. Then have them put away all the toys.

Thanks for this rec and mothercould – following both now!
Some busytoddler stuff has been a hit, namely the sensory bin or bath activities. It just seemed so standard 3yo to reject this activity which I specifically purchased colored dot stickers for and do the simple thing, which was tracing the letters with a crayon we already owned – I had to laugh.

Working here. Our 5 year old is at our local Y’s all day camp that is affiliated with the aftercare program. With snow/remote days, late starts, and a general lack of pandemic childcare, we just couldn’t take a scheduled day to have her home. And we’re taking two weeks over spring break to drive to my parents’ in Flordia. I’m being pretty productive because more work now means less work on vacation.
TheElms says
Working here … not very productively.
Clementine says
Right now I’m regretting every vacation to a warm place that I didn’t take.
It’s cold and I’m trapped inside and at home and wishing I could fly to a beach somewhere.
Anon says
Yep. I’ve been dreading this window for months and now it’s here. We’ve been having freezing rain off and on for two weeks now, so the kids have been cooped up inside. We’re all miserably stir crazy. The alternate between bouncing off the furniture and fighting.
In two or three weeks we’ll start to see spring here. I can’t wait. It’s so close but still feels so far.

Working, but it’s so cold here that our city’s power grid is starting to shut down because of the high electricity use. So maybe I won’t be working for long?

Wow, I noticed the main C-rtte page is really full of naysayers and attack dogs lately.

I have never actually been there. Found this site first and it has everything I need: super nice yet hilariously snarky people who give the best advice.

Ha, I was just thinking it was relatively tame over there today.

I haven’t been able to read there since the beginning of the pandemic. Way too much anger and anxiety.
CPA Lady says
It goes through cycles. People have been hounded and bullied over there for as long as I’ve been a reader (over a decade) …I still remember a regular poster named shayla or shayna or something like that leaving in an epic bleep storm in the early days.
I think everyone is really at the end of their emotional ropes right now with covid and a long gray winter, which is not helping the atmosphere either over there or anywhere.
