Boden has a number of machine washable, pumping friendly wrap dresses right now — particularly if you prefer the Freemie style of pumping. This Henrietta dress is marked down, but I also like this wrap dress. All of the fun patterns are not only bright and happy, but they’re also great for hiding stains, whether it’s a drop of milk from a leaky bottle on your dress… to another kind of leak. The pictured dress is $44-$74 (down from $148), available at Boden. Henrietta DressSales of note for 3.26.24

Love this dress! Great pick for pumping at work.
Question for other working mothers – do you ever feel like the things you most want to do are either more difficult or nearly impossible to do as a working parent? For instance, I have been feeling an increasing desire lately to become a foster parent, but with three biological kids + a foster child, I question how I would spend any quality time with my kids, or even get to work on time, truthfully, if I were to pursue this while still working full time. Are there some paths in life that require opting out of the workforce for a few years in order to do it (especially given the many appointments that foster children often have), or is there some magical way to make it work in the 24 hours of a day? I love my job, but I wonder if I can continue to love it and be any good at it, while still doing the things with my family that I most want to do.

Yes. I feel that way often. My child is still very young, but there are things I’d like to do for him as he grows that would be very difficult to do as a working mom. While there seem to be plenty of arguments for the “you can have it all” line of thought – my brief experience thus far is that I cannot, in fact, have all of what I desire. I think, particularly given how many American companies approach parenthood (limited leave time, limited PTO for caring for children, etc…), it is difficult for some of us to be fully engaged as parents and fully engaged as employees at the same time. I truly admire women who seem to be able to make the balance work.
I think the opportunity to care for a foster child is an incredible one, and a worthy venture to put one’s career on hold to pursue. All the best as you sort out which path to take!
