A colorful shape shorter-like toy with six colorful shapes

Just say no to sad beige toys! This award-winning, colorful, BPA-free set from Fat Brain Toys will definitely catch your baby’s eye and provide hours of play, plus some nice sensory input.

When my kid was young, we had one of those run-of-the-mill shape sorters (“It goes in the square hole!”), but this looks even more interesting. Your little one (age six months and up) can push the textured blocks through the elastic bands to get them into the cube — no shape-matching required (which the company notes will enable “frustration-free play”).

The InnyBin is under $30 at Amazon.

Psst: Looking for info about nursing clothes for working moms or tips for pumping at the office? We’ve got them both…

At what age would you be comfortable leaving a kid in a hotel room for an hour or so while you have dinner a few blocks away?

Asking for me, whose 7 year old just threw an epic fit about going to dinner with me and my husband and begged to stay back in our hotel. I know she’s too young now, but I’m wondering at what age it would be realistic to just say “ok” and leave, rather than listening to her b1tch and moan.

We just spent an hour in the parking lot of our local kids consignment shop assembling our crib so we could sell it. DH was pouring sweat. It was a PBK MCM convertible crib in good condition. I was hoping it would all be worth it and we would get a few hundred, but we got $96 for it. I know there isn’t a huge demand for used cribs and the store has to make a profit. Oh well, at least it’s out of our house and we got some money for it – better than nothing.

i realize this is a privileged position to be in, but trying to decide whether to pursue mental health treatment for my 7 year old through a hospital system that takes insurance or with an out of network provider. my 7 year old is a skin picker and it’s gotten to the point where it is interfering with her ability to participate in activities, how she feels about herself, etc. and also has some anxiety. potentially ADHD. I met someone who specializes in OCD/Anxiety/Skin Picking who is well-respected and works at a local hospital system, and so I called there and the next available appointment is in mid-September. I will also say that the office manager is TERRIBLE at calling people back. she basically doesn’t. you have to keep calling until you reach her. (like she never returned any of my calls). It is located near my work, but not as near to our home, but takes insurance. Not sure what our options for timing of continuing appointments will be. For the 1st appointment, DD will have to leave school about 45 min early. We already spend a lot on out-of-network speech therapy. There are other options (though unclear if this is as much of a specialty for them) that are out-of-network where we can be seen much sooner, are closer to our house and i’ll likely have more scheduling flexibility. i also feel like people are often trying to find help for their kid shortly after the school year begins, so if we can get started over the summer it might be better. thoughts?

Hi! We’re considering a few days in Orlando in November to take kiddo to Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I am a total novice about anything Universal – I’ve never been. Any recommendations on resources for learning or where to stay, tips, etc.? I’m strongly considering a VIP (but not private VIP) tour our first day, and then going out on our own the second day. Would appreciate any help! Thanks!

Hi all – Anon anxious mom here that posted last week. Thanks again all for the advice and kick in the pants. My anxiety sent me down a google rabbithole that told me that kids that had some of the needs that my kid has had/had were basically doomed, so that led me to freak out and post here.

I’ve been doubling down my efforts around self-care, meditation, etc. and have therapy this week. I’ve been doing it bi-weekly but I think I’ll up it to weekly right now.

Also, why are kids glasses so hard?! I feel like it’s simple for elementary school and older but to find the small glasses that are appropriate for my 4.5 yos head is proving to be a multiple step process (and we live in a major city, with lots of places to get glasses, but most places just stock for school-aged kids)

How am I 24 weeks pregnant and 6 months pregnant but still have 109 days to go?! Is anyone else on here pregnant and just bored? I’m having a completely uneventful time of it except walking is basically out due to swelling and I cannot cope with the heat at all so I’m just. Here. On my couch. Waiting. And pool time of course but I’m convinced I’m burning easier than I used to.

I’m thinking about getting a music player for my toddler. Would you recommend a yoto or a tonies or something else?

Reporting back from the vacation derailed by kid illness – we rallied and saved all we could from the itinerary and while our original group of 4 couldn’t go rafting, the best person from the group and I managed to get a last-minute cancellation to go on our last day. It was colder weather, but it meant we had the boat to ourselves and I got to feel like “not mom” for just a few hours. Adventure is super important to me and those hours alone revived me so much. Lesson learned to be flexible and accept second best plans (and jump on opportunities if they present themselves) because they can still be amazing.

Any ideas for 2nd birthday gifts? My daughter turns two at the beginning of September and the grandparents are starting to ask for suggestions. I’m thinking about suggesting a toddler bike for the grandparent who will be visiting in a few weeks, so my daughter can enjoy it the rest of the summer. Other ideas?

Can someone talk me through their meal plan/prep/weekday meal strategy? What works for you? Do you prep a grain? Or pre-chop veg?

We’re adventurous eaters, I’m a good cook, but dietary requirements (2 DF, 1 veggie) seem to make this harder than it should be. Kid gets school meals during the school year, but my husband and I are WFH most of the time, and pretty anti-sandwiches, so we tend to eat any leftovers.

I’m going to a 3rd bday party where the host said no gifts, and I know she meant it. But it’s very very uncommon here, and I feel weird showing up empty handed.

Are there any small consumables that would appeal to a high energy 3 yr old boy?

All three of my kids LOVED this toy. Thanks for helping me to remember all the fun we had when they were babies :)
