These cute rain boots caught my eye as part of the Nordstrom sale — I love that bit of personality with the laces in the back (and they’d be great for my kinda wide calves since I could make them as loose as I wanted to). They were $148, but are now marked to $99 (available in whole sizes only); other colors/prints are $99-119. Coach ‘Tristee’ Waterproof Rain Boot (L-3)Sales of note for 9.10.24

Has anyone seen these boots in person? Would they be appropriate to wear all day in a business casual office environment? Or do they look too plastic-y?
ANP says
Although I can’t answer your question, these are adorable! I wish I could justify rain boots as a purchase, but I’m rarely walking outside in puddles (car commuter lifestyle) so it feels like a huge splurge.
Scandia says
I think they look great.
Coming from a rubberboot wearing country
– rubberboots are the best. But wearing them inside all day would be way to humid for your feet.

My one year old is cutting multiple molars at once and I am desperate! He won’t sleep at night and we are all exhausted. This has been going on for ten days. (He’s been to the doctor and ears and throat checked out fine). Tylenol works sometimes, but he won’t bite on the variety of cold things we’ve offered him and he just cries and cries. It’s awful! I also tried the natural orajel and out of desperation ordered an amber necklace at midnight last night. Is there something else I’m missing??
POSITA says
Tylenol isn’t very good for teething pain. With your ped’s okay, use ibuprofen. It is much better and helps with both pain and inflammation.
anne-on says
Agreed – ask your ped about staggering tylenol and ibuprofen. My son cut all of his 2 year molars at once and our doctor gave us the ok to do ibuprofen and then tylenol after about 2-3 hours (check with them on dosing, it depends on weight). That was enough to let my poor son sleep through most of the night.
Teething SOS says
I’ll try this combo! We were doing ibuprofen at the highest infant dosage (his weight is right on the borderline to go up to the toddler dosage) and it wasn’t helping. Based on the comment below, I think he probably just wasn’t getting enough. Thanks everyone!
PinkKeyboard says
Have you tried Motrin? I know it works better for some people.
rakma says
Agree with the ibuprofen suggestions above. Also double check with your ped about the dosing–the dosage my ped said to use is much higher than what the bottles says.
Also, DD didn’t like to bite on cold things, but would chew on the teething toys at room temp. Maybe that would help?
Anon says
Not much advice just commiseration as facing the exact same thing at my house. Our biggest issue was that he wouldn’t drink anything so we were worried about dehydration. Our ped recommended sticking with tynelol over advil as it’s easier on the tummy and he wasn’t eating/drinking a lot so his belly wasn’t full. YMMV. Lots of cuddles seems to help, so I’ve been babywearing a bunch even though that normally isn’t my thing.
kc esq says
When we were desperate, we gave my son some vanilla ice cream to curb his teething hanger.
kc esq says
Putting ice cubes in his sippy cup and having him drink the ice water would calm my son down as a daytime fix. He also chewed on damp washcloths.
OP says
Ice cubes in the sippy cup would work for him, good idea! I may try your ice cream plan too…good for mom and him. :)

Hi ladies! I know this has been discussed, but my google-fu is failing. I’m almost done nursing (stopped pumping this week!) and would like to get myself a small splurge to celebrate this milestone. Any suggestions, or can anyone find the link to the prior discussion? I’m thinking a necklace in the $50-$100 range, prefer smallish pieces and silver or pearls (not gold).
NewMomAnon says
Have you looked at Gemvara? I bought myself a ring for Mother’s Day with my kiddo’s birth stone – I think it cost $200 or so, and depending on the combo of metal/stone you can hit a big range of prices (like, I could have gotten the ring in platinum with top-line stones and spent $2,500+).
I’ve also heard BaubleBar mentioned on here, but haven’t looked at it.
JJ says
I bought myself a right-hand ring on Gemvara earlier this year. I think its was $80, has both my kids’ birthstones on it, but doesn’t look like “mom jewelry.” (Not that there’s anything wrong with that style, just wasn’t what I was looking for). Highly recommend looking there.

A really touching gift that I read about as a done-nursing-gift was some sort of time piece. You have spent so much time nursing your child, and no one would give a second thought to a professional woman gazing at her watch!
JJ says
That’s a great idea. I love that.
JEB says
I don’t have any ideas, but I’m going to start weaning next week (one year). I never considered treating myself to a gift, but I LOVE the idea. I feel like I’ve earned a little splurge after all of the courthouse and airport bathrooms I’ve pumped in!
RDC says
Yes! My feeling exactly. And congrats!
JEB says
You too :)
EB0220 says
Thanks for reminding me that I intended to do this too. I just weaned my kiddo at 15 months. I’m going to look at Gemvara!

I have a very poor grasp of science so bare with me –
My child is vaccinated against whooping cough and there is an outbreak in my area. Can my child still get whooping cough?
NewMomAnon says
I think it is possible, but unlikely. The CDC website says the vaccine is effective for 8-9 out of every 10 children who receive it, and that 7 in 10 will still be protected 5 years after their last dose of the vaccine.
I would talk to your ped; they may recommend a booster, or recommend making sure that everyone around your kiddo is up to date with vaccines (including daycare teachers, etc), or something else that I can’t think of right now. If your kiddo is in daycare, ask whether their student and teacher vaccine records are up to date.
Meg Murry says
Yes, having the vaccine makes the risk much much lower, but not zero.
Have you had a booster, or the rest of your family members? I’d call your Dr and see if you can get a Tdap booster if you haven’t had it in 10 years.
I agree with asking daycare what their plan is – are they going to be extra vigilant on kids with coughs? Ask the staff to get boosters? Keep the age groups more separate than usual? Etc
