Sweater jackets are an office winter wardrobe staple for good reason — they’re warm and comfy, yet structured. Here’s one that will take you from 5:00 p.m. deadline to holiday cocktail hour.
This crewneck sweater jacket has a unique soft, brushed texture; shiny eye-catching buttons; and slightly fitted profile. Just add some sparkly jewelry and a statement clutch to take it after hours.
Ann Taylor’s brushed sweater jacket is on sale for $83.40 (marked down from $139) and comes in sizes XXS-XXL as well as petites. It’s available in rainforest (perfect for the holidays), blue quartz (lucky sizes only), and light mink.
Some of our favorite sweater jackets for the office as of 2024 include M.M.LaFleur (the OG, the jardigan!), L’Agence, Summersalt, J.Crew, and Jenni Kayne. For budget options check J.Crew Factory and Quince.

talk to me about bikes for 6.5 year olds who just learned to ride a two wheeler but are too tall for their current bikes (which are 16 inch bikes from Target). do i take them to a bike store? just buy a larger size from a place like target? purchase guardian or one of those brands?
Putting this as its own post bc I think we all could use it! I’m the poster who just came off a slog of a holiday with inlaws, and looking forward, deeply, to a month of festivities with my own family.
We are a big family, and we have SO MUCH FUN TOGETHER, but we are definitely “too much” for my quiet, old school inlaws. Thanksgiving was stressful under the watchful, judgy eye of my very prim and proper mother in law.
So, I’m giving myself permission to not put up the holiday decorations that stress me out (I’m looking at you, holiday garland, that is half burned out and takes me freaking forever to get placed on our kitchen cabinets). The garland has been sitting in my living room all week, and I pulled it out today, lost interest, and I’m just putting it back in the box in the basement for now. Maybe next year I can deal. I did go all out on the outdoor lights, and I regret nothing.
Over thanksgiving, I missed cooking for my family the way *I* cook (a lot of garlic, butter, eyeballing amounts) because my in laws make beautiful meals, but cooking with them is SO stressful bc you are gently chided if you don’t cook or cut something the technically correct way. So I’m using the mental energy I saved from the garland to make food the way my Italian grandmother did – flavorful and messy with lots of laughter while cooking.
What are you giving yourself permission to do this month?
I just looked through the gift thread yesterday and if you’re getting Beyblades, skip the arena and get a hula hoop. They work as an arena, and make it so much more fun.
Has anyone done a newborn photo shoot, and if so, what is the price range? I am getting quotes that are so high – over $1k for the session plus digital files! Is this normal for HCOL area?
Vent to the universe. We invited my mother-in-laws to celebrate early Christmas. MIL2 insisted on first class trains so it cost a fortune for them. We booked a nice theatre show, lunch, and planned to do presents, a full Christmas dinner on Sunday, have the Christmas tree decorated.
And now they are slow-motion cancelling… Yesterday AM, they called to say MIL2 had a sore neck and might not come. Then suggested that MIL1 might not come either. My husband mentioned they were picking me up in the car, because I had slipped on a team-building hike and had a sore knee. “Oh, maybe she’s not up to hosting?”
And now they are deciding at 8:30pm after their drumming class! Like, if you don’t want to come, fine, you’re grown ups, but I’m going to have a very sad husband and kid, and am going to be cross about it. They’ve got form, MIL2 cancelled a trip 2 months in advance, claiming a sore shoulder.
And I have sympathy that they are aging and MIL2 is struggling with arthritis, but also, I’ve had a chronic, painful illness since 14, and am less dramatic about it.
Is this purse too little kid-ish for a 9 year old?

We have 5 and 9 year old girls on our giving tree list who want purses. My almost 7 year old girl wants to give them this. I’m sure the 5 year old girl will love it, but I don’t know if the 9 year old will want something more adult. Although the 9 year old did also ask for a baby doll which even my kid is starting to grow out of, so maybe it’ll be ok?
Good morning — looking for wisdom on the pros and cons of language immersion programs, particularly how late is too late. I have three year-olds who are in a Spanish immersion daycare, and we’re looking at possible immersion programs for them to start in PK3 next year. The tricky part is that my older child will be beginning kindergarten then and has not been in an immersion program, although she’s been regularly exposed to the language both by her siblings and because her school is majority Spanish-speaking. She’s picked up quite a bit of Spanish, particularly from her PK teachers, and has occasionally attended an immersion camp during school breaks. Her dad and I are not Spanish-speakers. Are we too late on this?
Also, any DC-specific advice on language immersion schools would also be welcome. TIA!
Anyone have a specific mp3 player for kids that will play from Spotify/Audible/Libby that they would recommend? These would be for my 10 and 7 year olds who like playing separate audiobooks in their rooms as they fall asleep at night but also for listening to music with headphones during the day. This option looks decent but would prefer a first-hand rec. Thanks! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BNB85SJV?ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_sms_apin_dp_GXX1P03KXGXXF2QWRAKA&cafHiResImg=1&language=en-US
