Okay, this is an incredibly inane question, but I’m looking for inspiration for produce to feed my picky 7yo. Currently the only fruit she eats is whole apples (not sliced, so hard to include in a lunchbox because it takes her a while to eat an entire one), canned pineapple, and occasionally raspberries and the only vegetables are carrot sticks and lettuce + tomato with vinaigrette salad dressing.
Most recently she’s rejected blueberries, strawberries, grapes, clementines, bell peppers, broccoli, green beans, and spinach (raw or cooked). I’m sure there’s some obvious things I’m not thinking of, so what should I offer her next?
How do I get my almost 7 year old her flu and covid shots? She’s FREAKING OUT at the idea of them. This is a new level of reaction. Last year we went as a family and she got to the point of the exam room door and wigged out. They had DH hold her down with another nurse and then gave it to her, which is probably why it’s even worse this year. I could load her in the car and drive her to the doctor without telling her but I swear to you she will run away in the parking lot. We (DH) could drag her in, quite literally kicking and screaming, but that feels almost so traumatic that it’s not even worth it.
Anyone have any ideas at all? I’m trying to figure out of my pedi offers flu nasal spray, but I fear they do not.
Since it’s officially December, anyone want to share what they’re getting their kids for the holidays?
I’m getting ready for a divorce and I’m worried Dad will want to switch to a daycare more convenient to his office instead of mine. I absolutely believe our current daycare is best because of incredibly loving staff, but that’s intangible. What factors can be verifiably compared if we end up needing a court decision between daycares?
How do you guys get on the same page about parenting with your spouse? My baby turns 1 in January, and parenting only gets more complicated from here.
We’ve got a fairly typical dynamic where I have far more experience with kids, and am more comfortable and have opinions about it while my husband is a little insecure about his parenting abilities and relative lack of experience so he just follows my lead. Easy enough to do with a baby, harder to do with a toddler so I’m trying to get ahead of the game here.
Just musing today that it’s so hard that your spouse is expected to be so many things to you. I adore my husband and we’re great friends, lovers, parents but we’re not great roommates or coworkers for each other (if that makes any sense).
Update! I was the mom of 4 who had boxes (and boxes and more boxes) of clothing packed away, and I did not want to move it several states this summer. I asked for advice and assistance in motivating me to cull it down.
You all gave me the motivation, and the very simple tip to “shop the boxes” for a capsule set of clothing for each age and donate the rest. This, literally, had never occurred to me. I grew up as the child of parents who (for a variety of good reasons) both grew up never knowing if you’d be able to run to Target to grab another pair of $5 pants, so the idea of giving away perfectly good items that you “might” someday need was absolute blasphemy. As a result, I was drowning in clothing — it was all fairly well organized and neatly stored, but I think I had maybe 30 pairs of size 6 pants (4 kids + local older cousins who handed down + local friends who handed up). The clutter and volume was giving me insane anxiety, and I also couldn’t always find what I needed when I needed it. I am so proud/ashamed to say that I donated about 14 bags of clothing yesterday to a local shelter. My kids each have one curated box of things from when they were babies, and I have one bin for each size in between the current ages of my kids. I honestly feel like I lost 10 lbs, ha! It took me 4 solid days of work, but once I got started, I didn’t stop until it was done. I also STILL feel like I could cull more from my kids’ current drawers, but it would be a 30 minute job, not a multi-day job.
Any other updates from the group? I thought a lot about our mom who has been struggling with meeting her 3 year old son where he is right now.
Any recommendations for a sleep sack/wearable blanket for a newborn showing signs of readiness to roll at an early age? He isn’t yet at the minimum weight for two of the sacks we got as hand-me-downs. Also, he still has a strong Moro reflex (wish we could safely swaddle!!) so anything that helps with that, if something safe exists, would be welcome. I’ve heard mixed things about the Merlin sleep suit, but would consider trying if people recommend.
