Make My Life Easier Thursday: Wooden Magnetic Chore Chart

On some days, my kids fight over who gets to clean the lint trap or sweep the garage. On others, not so much. Maybe they need some positive reinforcement through a chore chart like this one.
This fabric-hinged board has a behavior chart on one side and a dry erase / magnet storage board on the other. The 90 magnets include responsibilities, positive behaviors, and rewards. If you’re crafty, you can try creating your own magnets, as some of the commenters suggest.
Melissa & Doug’s chore chart is $12.99 at Target and also available at Amazon.

I need some Christmas gift ideas for my youngest of 3 girls. She’s 7. She shares interests with my oldest and body shape/style with my middle– everything she loves or might want we already have from one of the older girls. When I think back on what we got my older kids at this age, this kiddo already has it! She has a couple things on her list but we need some ideas for relatives. DH veto’d my idea of a pet.
She’s already getting books (which is seriously nuts because we have SO MANY but we are getting specific series she loves), a bike, luggage & a few craft kits/toys. What are you getting your fun 7 y/os?
I missed the discussion on bikes yesterday but wanted to put a plug for Guardian bikes. We got one a couple years ago for our kid who was ready to get a 20″ bike but all the ones at our local bike stores seemed huge for him. Guardian actually sells a 20″ small and a 20″ large — the 20″ small was exactly what we needed. It arrived quickly and was easy to put together. 10 months later, we used their growth spurt guarantee to exchange it for the 20″ large after kiddo had grown a couple of inches. The company made everything seamless and easy. We are fans!
Favorite Christmas traditions established apart from your family of origin? It’s baby’s first Christmas, and while he won’t remember anything is a good time to reflect on what traditions we want to establish as a family.
MIL1 is en route after all of yesterday’s drama.
Pledging here – I am going to have such a good attitude. And I am going to be so nice to my husband, because it’s not his fault his parents are weirdos.
She will say weird things to me, and I will just smile serenely because in two weeks, we will be in the loving embrace of my parents, and we will appreciate them all the more for their goofy normalcy. My dad will take him on errands, my mom will make his favourite food, they’ll let us sleep in while they calmly do the NYT games with our child.
My husband is on a business trip until Sunday evening and I am dreading the solo parenting time. What do you plan to make solo parenting better on the weekends? Kids are 7 and 10 but 7 year old is going through a particularly … independent… phase.
MIL is insisting we take her out to dinner to an upscale restaurant this weekend for her birthday…with our 3 kids (3, and two 13-month olds). On a scale of 1-10 how do we think this is going to go? We are going very early.
DH is getting the snip tomorrow so he won’t be able to carry any of the kids. Am I petty if I put MIL in charge of keeping them all occupied and happy since she’s the one insisting on a full dinner out with them? 3 year old can reliably stay entertained quietly for an hour. One of the twins is a tornado who never stops moving.
Any board game recs for 4.5yo boy? He has so many toys and I want to get him a board game or two for Christmas.
We already have candy land, hungry hippos, and twister as well go fish and uno.
Most of the ones I’ve seen so far seem either too complicated or too toddler.
Gift idea for a newborn and 4 year old sister? Our neighbor just had a baby and I would like to celebrate with a gift. I dont know them very well. I have kids – but they are older and I have forgotten what they were into at that age.
