Another update. Had kiddo’s (~4) parent-teacher conference and all went well overall.
After a few months of going back/forth in my head, I decided this weekend to look into OT as a support to kid’s weekly ST, and because I see a lot of movement/motor things he *wants* to do, but then feels like he *can’t*, and the teacher subtly brought this up, too and when I mentioned OT she was super supportive. Also, turns out the friends I have that have kids in ST, also do OT…
I’m putting in initial inquiries based on OTs that other parent friends use/come to the preschool. Anything else to consider when looking at OTs?
Open to taking him to appointments, but obviously someone who comes to the school is ideal. (Even more ideal would be a early AM/late afternoon slot that doesn’t cut into the class curriculum time, but that would be a dream.)
I know it’s a phase, but my two year old yelling “no want mom! Want only dad!” sure is a fun time…especially when dad is at work for the next ten hours and I’m heavily pregnant. Literally just tossed her the toy she wanted because she didn’t want to come over and grab it because then she’d have to touch mom.
ETA: after receiving the toy, I got a “love you sooooo much” from across the room. Progress!
Ugh, figuring out how to divvy up holidays/school breaks is so fraught. My husband is unhappy with me because I don’t want his extended family visiting us over the second half of our kid’s two week winter break. We’re already seeing his family for the entire Thanksgiving long weekend and the first part of winter break, and I want my kid to get some quality time with her friends and my local parents too. He feels like his family should take priority because they’re not local and we see so much less of them; I feel like it’s unfair that he uses “but they’re local” as an excuse to deprioritize my parents on holidays and school breaks when they provide us a ton of childcare help (including staying with our kid for kid-free vacations) that he very much wants.
Thank you all for the reassurance regarding kiddo’s eyes yesterday. Got in with the ped this AM, they did a check and didn’t see anything of concern, but want us to see a ped optha anyway (which makes sense). I also spoke to a ped optometrist friend, who unfortunately is not local, but she suggested seeing a ped optometrist in the interim as well, and is going to refer us to a local provider.
Lots of comments all around that this is pretty common and nothing dire, even with his history of minor delays.
