My kid will turn 5 in three months and loves books. I really want to read some chapter books to him. However, I cannot stand some of the ones that are commonly recommended – they just seem so simple and not actually GOOD. Admittedly I’ve only read one but I didn’t like the Mercy Watson book we read and I found the Magic Treehouse books to be dull/repetitive/simple. We love The Faraway Tree series by Enid Blyton. Any suggestions for age-appropriate chapter books that I will ENJOY reading to my kid?

I know this was discussed last Friday, but the discussion was around slightly older kids. Would any of those books work for the younger set?

We recently got my 6 year old the T-Mobile SyncUp smart watch, and it’s been a game-changer to be able to call and text her (makes me feel like I have a teen, but in a good way!) without worry about her accessing the internet.

For those who have watches like this for their kids, what do you do about in school use? It is ok to have the watch on their wrist assuming they’re responsible enough not to use it in class? I think my kid is, and there would of course be big consequences if we found out she was not following the rules about this. Or should it be left in the backpack? Or not sent at all? I was thinking of asking the teacher if she has any policies or guidelines and going from there, but this is uncharted territory for us so I thought I’d ask here too. Thanks!
