I’m always looking for fun weekend sneakers that will take me from the store to brunch — and I’m loving this subtly colorful pair from Veja.
These hightops feature a rainbow of soft spring hues and a pull tab for easy on. Pair with jeans and a bright puffer for a fun late winter look. Swap out the puffer for a shacket as the weather moves into early spring.
And, if you prefer a more neutral sneaker, it also comes in white/natural.
These sneakers are $185 at Zappos and available in women’s whole sizes 5–10.
Psst: Coincidentally, Kate wrote about her Vejas in a recent Weekend Open Thread at Corporette.

Picking up on the thread from this morning, our state has just scaled back the quarantine/isolation guidelines for preschool. Just in time for my twin three year olds to be finishing their isolations. I’m wondering if the district for my K will drop their mask requirement soon as they’re also removing mask incentives for K-12. Bright side: made it through unscathed and I’ll be comfortable taking them indoor places for awhile!

I am curious what my childcare will do. Our mask mandate ends March 1. When it wasn’t in effect in 2021, they kept the kids in masks. But I don’t know if that will change this time. I don’t mind the masks for kids (and love way fewer colds!). But I do hate that it’s one more thing to forget!

Cross-posted from the main s*te in case any moms of young kids have thoughts…
Can anyone comment on Castle Hill Inn in Newport? On a whim (and having not had a vacation in 2+ years, and having always wanted to go to Newport), I booked a 3-night stay in late July in one of their beach cottages. It will be me, husband, our 3.5 and 1.5 year olds, and possibly my mother (there is a pull out couch). Let’s just say, it was … not cheap. I can still get a full refund, but wondering if this was a silly idea. Is it worth spending so much to go there with two toddlers? Appreciate any input!

What are you looking to get out of Newport with this trip? I live in MA and love Newport. We have kids but I don’t consider Newport a “kids” trip. It’s for food, visiting the mansions and shopping. Maybe a spa.
My kids like the mansions and the tennis museum and the herreshoff museum in Bristol but they are older and play tennis and we sail.

That’s all good to know. I guess we’re just looking to go to the beach, take nice walks around pretty areas, maybe take a drive to see the mansions? If my mom comes, she could stay with the kids in the room one night while husband and I go out for dinner, and another night my husband would stay back so my mom and I could go out together as well.

I would leave the kids at home with your MIL and spend 1-2 nights with your husband there instead.
I have family in Westport, MA and cousins with a beach house in Wickford, RI. The only thing Newport has over those areas are things that don’t matter if you are schlepping around with young kids, IMO.

I just responded to you on the main page and am in m0d so I’ll repost here. It’s gorgeous and you will love it. I’ve only been for meals (I can’t bring myself to spend that much on a hotel unless it’s a once in a lifetime trip), but if it’s in your budget it will be amazing.
At 1 and 3, you don’t really need kids’ activities for a fun family trip. They’ll be happy playing on beaches and playgrounds and getting ice cream. I agree Newport would bore many elementary age kids, since it’s more of an adult-oriented destination with little in the way of official activities for kids, but toddlers and preschoolers need very little entertainment to be happy.

Newport is great for strolling/walking/shopping. My kids would be a hard no to that at 1.5 and 3.5. I know this because we vacationed on Martha’s Vineyard when they were that age and I dragged them to Edgartown with the idea they would just chill in their strollers while we shopped and took in scenery and they had ice cream. NOPE.

I mean, just because you can spend a day walking around and shopping doesn’t mean you have to. You can also play on the beach, go boating and eat seafood, which is what we do in pretty much any New England destination with kids that age. I’m pretty sure Castle Hill also has lawn games and bonfires that a 3 year old would enjoy. It has a rep locally as a hotel that’s great for families (very affluent families, obvs).

I think “hotel is good for families” in Newport means it has lawn games and decent kid food and your elem kids will have fun. Not that a 3.5 year old will like it ;).

We’re heading to Disney in FL in two weeks! Does anyone have any tips? 2 boys, 10 and 7.

Someone had recommended trips with tykes on the other site, which was helpful to me. I leave with my kiddos tomorrow!

If you are a planner (like me), be prepared to let your plan go at some point because the kids want to do something else or are just too tired, or whatever. I still remember the deep breath it required to relinquish a set of hard earned fast passes when my kids were just done for the day.
Also, my 2 boys at that age spent sooo much time staring at the tree of life in Animal Kingdom, it still is one of their key memories.

We were just there — you’ll have a blast! We only did mobile pickups for our in-park food (and a PBJ for my picky eater we brought from home). If you and your DH are drinkers consider getting airplane bottles of your preferred liquor to add to various in-park drinks like blue milk instead of paying thru the nose. Prepare for sore feet. Put your masks on lanyards so you can take them off/put them on easily.
