Is there a kind way to tell someone to please stop giving you hand-me-downs? DH’s coworker keeps giving us used toys and clothes from her kids and grandkids. It seems like she’s going to some effort to collect stuff for us. This stuff is not in good shape. It’s sticky, stained, and infused with cigarette smoke. She also asks DH for pictures of our baby in the clothes, which of course he doesn’t have. It’s uncomfortable for him. He’s tried to decline but she’s taken to just dropping off bags at his desk.
I’m also concerned that there might be an unspoken expectation that we give these things back after LO has used them. I don’t want to store smoky stuff in our home so we can give it back in a year. How do we navigate this kindly?
