I was googling something else kid-related and came upon this very interesting article about baby and child sleep – I found the stats about what percentage of babies are sleeping 6-8 hours consecutively at various ages *very* interesting. https://www.sleepfoundation.org/children-and-sleep/how-much-sleep-do-kids-need
My kids are all much older than that now but I always felt like I had the only 12 month old who was not sleeping though the night, when in fact over 40% of 12 month olds do not sleep through the night. I was happy with our choices not to push STTN but I wondered if I was the only one… and turns out I definitely was not. Maybe these stats will make someone else feel less alone.

I wish it were broken down by whether the parents instituted sleep training or not. Anecdotally, the kids I hear about who do sleep through the night tended to have gone through sleep training.

Anecdata, but we didn’t sleep train and my kid started sleeping six hour stretches around one month and was consistently sleeping ~10 hours consecutively at night before she was two months old. We were very lucky, but I do know several others who had good sleepers with no sleep training. She was born big (almost 9 lbs) which I think is definitely a factor, and we did supplement with formula in the very beginning which I think helped us get some longer stretches very early since formula takes longer to digest, although we’d stopped using it by the time she started really sleeping through the night. She’s in elementary school now and still LOVES to sleep, lol.

I heard what I always assumed was an old wives’ tale that bigger babies sleep better, but your child and my 9-pounder sound very similar! She was sleeping 8-10 hour stretches with no sleep training by 6 weeks or so and is still my champion sleeper in elementary school. My son… did not sleep through the night until he turned six. He was a full 8 pounds at birth, so not tiny, but that was a whole different experience!

I would hypothesize that there is a correlation between length and quality of sleep and sleep training, but that causation runs opposite to the usual assumption. I am betting that parents with terrible sleepers are driven to try sleep train g, not that sleep training produces good sleepers.

Does anyone have any tips for managing first trimester headaches? I’m drinking tons of water but so far the only thing that helps is a nap in a dark room.

magnesium, which may also help morning sickness. Use a topical spray if you can’t handle the pills or Natural Calm.

My ob was fine with me taking Tylenol and for me that does help with migraines a lot (I know I’m lucky and many migraine sufferers don’t get relief from Tylenol).

Caffeine helped me, so I would often have a soda in the afternoon (I’m otherwise not a soda drinker, but also don’t like tea/coffee). My doc also had me start daily magnesium and baby aspirin – note that the magnesium should be taken at a different time of day than the prenatal for maximum effectiveness.
