Something on your mind? Chat about it here. I first got into waterfall cardigans when I was nursing, and these days my very favorite kind of cardigan is the sweatshirt cardigan. It’s warm, easy to wash (even though my kids are 3 and 6, they still manage to get yogurt and everything else all over me) and — huzzah! — this one has pockets and thumbholes. Color me obsessed. It’s $99–$109, available in regular and plus sizes at Nordstrom. Elevate Me Wrap Sweatshirt Psst: Along similar lines, I just got this lighter weight cardigan from Betabrand, and it has a hood as well as pockets. (If you’ve never bought from Betabrand, you can get $15 off your first purchase by using this referral link.) Silly question ahead: I took what is arguably the best picture so far of my son. However, the house was being renovated, so in the background, you can see all the ram board taped to the floor and two different shades of aqua paint samples on the yellow wall. Do we just blow up the picture anyway and frame it? Have someone work some kind of photoshop magic? I mean, it is truly an otherworldly shot of my kid (who is 1 so it is impossible to get good pictures anymore).

I vote for blow it up and frame it. Crop out some of the background if you think it makes the photo better, but I think that in the age of cell phone pictures, you’re documenting real life. Right now, real life involves a constantly moving 1 year old and a renovation. It’s not a posed portrait studio type thing with a perfect background and props.

+1 also to documenting real life, in all its reno messiness and glory

I can see doing either. I can think of at least one photo that isn’t quite perfect in the background but that I absolutely love of my kid – and I think I planned to get it photoshopped for framing and never did so. She was about 1 and is now 5, and I haven’t had that photo displayed in all this time. I could have been enjoying it if I hadn’t obsessed over the background! Of course, you may have better follow-through than I do :) And maybe it would have bothered me eventually. I truly don’t think other people notice things like that – they’ll be looking at your beautiful boy.
Photo enlargement with matte finish appropriate for a standard sized frame wouldn’t be that expensive – can you just go with it as is and if you still notice the paint samples and ram board and it bothers you, you can then have someone tidy it up?

It’s so easy for a pro to fix this in photoshop! I’ve done it thru people per hour but there are other similar online job sites. I think I paid $5 per photo and it took 30 hours.

Frame it! In 20 years it will make you nostalgic for both the baby and the time when your house was under renovation. Think about how you look at goofy childhood pictures from the 70s and 80s and laugh about the crazy shag carpet or flowered couches, it makes it that much more personal.

This is great! Thanks everyone – I think I will blow it up for now, just so I actually have it and it’s done, and then consider doing the pro fix if it still bugs me after a while.
