Please don’t get this for a frequent traveler in your life… I travel regularly and don’t use any of this stuff except socks, which I don’t need more of.
add says
+1 this would all get donated except for the socks.

It’s also $98?! What are they smoking…
PJ says
Frequent travelers already have better versions of this stuff that they like. This looks like something sold for $9.99 at CVS.

Am I the jerk of a parent here? My four year old was invited to a party of one of his daycare classmates. The party is 5:00 on a Tuesday, at a a location that is 20-30 minutes away from the area where the daycare is and where we live. I most just don’t want to go, because it’s super inconvenient for me to leave work and get him there. My son keeps talking it up though, so mom guilt is strong.

If you are asking what I would do, I would probably take him if I could swing it since he sounds excited. BUT, you are 100% not a jerk if you decide to skip it. People who plan weekday parties know that not everyone will show up. It is fine!

Agreed with all this.

I’m sure there is a good reason for the timing, but sheesh – that party sounds like a meltdown fiesta. Who is at their best at 5pm?

I would love a 5 pm party — it’s a hard window of time to be at home, and weekends get busy with activities and family stuff. Maybe I’m a weirdo but I don’t think kids need to be at their “best” for a preschool party. Who cares if they’re a little overtired?
I understand that time won’t work for most working parents though.

I mostly agree. Kids may be a mess after but the excitement of the party will carry them thru. Also, OP, you’re not the jerk but I would try to make it – if kids are all going from day care to this, your kid will be bummed to miss it after a whole day of build up in his classroom. For me, it would be easier to go than to deal with my kid being a grump to have missed it.
Also, separately, one of my favorite parties was for a 6 year old, at 530 on a Friday. Seemed like weird timing but was great to have something my kids looked forward to and that didn’t ruin my weekend.

What’s the recovery like for ear tubes & adenoidectomy? My daughter is almost 6 and no longer has frequent ear infections, but has been diagnosed with chronic hearing loss due to middle ear fluid build up so she needs tubes and apparently it’s standard to take the adenoids out at the same time.
Also feeling some mom guilt that I didn’t push harder for tubes when she was a toddler who did have frequent ear infections. She now has significant speech articulation issues that are likely related to the hearing loss, and I’m feeling really bad we didn’t notice and address this earlier.

Try not to beat yourself up about it too much. My oldest is 6.5 and did have ear tubes at 18 months and still needs an adenoidectomy. I’ve heard recovery is longer for older kids, but I don’t have any experience to back that up. Both my two year old and 6 year old will likely be getting their adenoids out this fall so I feel your pain.
