Hard to believe that pool season is just around the corner. Get your kids comfortable underwater with this treasure hunt dive set.
This 30-piece set includes coins, gems, and a locked treasure box. In addition to diving games, kids will have fun playing pirates or even using them as bath toys. Note that the pieces are small, so this jewel of a toy is probably best for bigger swashbucklers. (It’s recommended for ages 6 and up.)
This dive set from Target’s Sun Squad is $12.

I was about to help out another mom with a serious childcare emergency today, and it was a good reminder that community is built not only by people who offer help but by people who are willing to accept it. In case you need it this Friday, here’s a little encouragement to let yourself rely on others, and ask for the help you need. She gave me a gift by letting me help her.
The Boxcar Children – there are so many of them and Audible has them in sets of 4.
Zoey and Sassafras comes as a set of 6 on Audible.
The Princess in Black also comes as bundled sets.
Beverly Cleary has the Ralph the Mouse Series, not sure if they come bundled though, but they are each a couple hours long.
A Bear Called Paddington is another great longer book.
You could also try the BBC Classics Children’s Library on Audible it has a bunch of classics and the runtime is about 20 hours
My husband and I are thinking about having a fourth kid. This seems a bit insane to me because: we’re 38 and our youngest (twins) just turned 3. We’ll be 55 when they graduate HS. My dad died at 55 so that is probably influencing my feelings a bit. And the twins were incredibly difficult babies. But it seems like there’s someone missing from our family. I don’t really have a question, just needed to state that to the universe I guess.
I’m getting ready to head out on maternity/parental leave shortly. Taking an extended leave as we’re in a country that provides more than the 12-weeks we would have gotten in the US (subject to a more generous employer)…
Anything you wish you did before going out on leave or lessons learned? Trying to have everything as organized as possible for folks to take on my clients and files temporarily.
Any audio book recommendations for 5.5 year old and 3.5 year old? They absolutely love Magic Treehouse but we are running out of audible bundled in that series. They also have enjoyed Nate the Great and Frog and Toad.
my daughter is having a backyard spa party and it’s unfortunately 90 degrees from 2 to 4 pm when she’s having her party. The seating area for parents is in thr shade and we bought a 10’x10′ canopy for the table for the 10 girls to be in shade but is there anything else I can do to make this more comfortable? I do not have a great spot to host this indoors unfortunately..
Thank you so much for all the comments! I got caught up at work but greatly appreciated reading through all of them last night.
Dinner was proposed as a “let’s celebrate Project’s completion!” The invitation was very outside the norm for our team- we complete these projects every 2-4 weeks and there was nothing special about the project. We’ve all been here 3+ years and the most socialization we do is participate in the office potlucks. Inviter has had some recent minor life changes that make me assume she’s looking for more social connection.
Before reading the thread yesterday I had asked another coworker if she had any desire to do this dinner and her answer was a resounding no too. So, I bowed out citing vague “nows not a great time for me” and offered to do lunch instead if anyone was interested and coworker jumped on that saying lunch would be even better for her too.
But, everyone’s comments made me realize we do need to get more comfortable doing the bedtime routine solo. We’re going to work on that, just with activities we actually want to do.
Some victories this week: I took this entire week off to tackle a bunch of the household and personal tasks that I’ve been neglecting for the past four years or so. I ended up getting rid of eleven total garbage bags’ worth of stuff from the kids’ room, my room, and the playroom (some trashed, most donated). I worried the kids would be annoyed at how much of their stuff was suddenly gone but they are THRILLED to have more space to play and only the toys/art materials they really love. And! I also went to Ulta to redeem a gift certificate that I’d had since Christmas (!!), had a very long session with a very nice salesperson, and replaced all my drugstore makeup/skincare with items more suitable for my 40-year-old face. I feel so refreshed.
One of my twins has a total meltdown every morning that he has to go to day care. He’s been attending day care since he was 18 months old. I have no reason to suspect he doesn’t like day care: he has friends there, loves his teacher and is generally well liked. I do suspect he has anxiety and possibly ADHD, but he’s three. I’ve tried preparing “today you’re going to day care: let’s get dressed”, we’ve tried 5 minute warnings, I’ve tried doing an hug, kiss, high five routine, I’ve tried reading him that “grownups come back”. He still cries. Every day. Once I drop him off he’s fine about a minute later. I’m just tired of the screaming clinging trying to get him out the door. His twin doesn’t care at all: he’s like “bye mom!” Any tips?

How many of you have 3 1/2-year-olds who do not sleep through the night or who need a parent to fall asleep? My friend and I were just talking about it and she’s getting frustrated that that’s what her kid requires but she’s not sure if it’s what he really needs or if it’s something he needs to work through. I don’t have a three-year-old yet myself so didn’t really have anything personal to share.
