I find traditional claw clips uncomfortable. Why didn’t I come up with Teleties’ flat clips?

These flat clips are designed to let you lie down or rest your head while keeping your hair up. They come in numerous colors and shapes (I like this tortoise version for versatility), and three sizes to accommodate a range of hair thicknesses and updos.

This hair clip is $12.99.

Sometimes it’s frustrating to me that my husband is not handy. At all. I’ve seen him change a lightbulb once or twice, and swap a few batteries from kids’ toys. I’m not sure if it rankles me because I have subconscious expectations that men should have a baseline level of handy-ness, or because it feels like weaponized incompetence, or because I am the one who is stuck doing everything from weedwacking, to hanging outdoor christmas lights, to changing electrical outlets, replacing door handles, un-jamming old windows, etc., on top of lots of other family responsibilities. Or maybe I just want praise for being able to do all that and not spending money on a handyman twice a week for odd jobs?

What do you wear to a company holiday party with a dress code that is “elevated and festive”? It will take place in the evening at a botanic garden.

I really appreciated the comment yesterday about resetting to the joy and laughter in interacting with your kid! Sometimes after a lot of fighting/whining it can be really helpful to back off and have a fun moment and just say “hey kid, I love you”.

People with local grandparents – did they buy things like car seat, high chair, pack n play? Did you? My ILs are local, and they will sometimes babysit at our house. But they have never purchased a car seat or set up a corner of their house for our child (they do have a high chair so she can eat there – it’s an old one they got from a neighbor). The other day MILs said “oh if I had a car seat I could take [child] to the zoo” and I said you’re always welcome to take one of our cars! Should I have offered to pay for a car seat? I don’t particularly mind paying, it’s just that it’s the first time they expressed a desire to go somewhere with her, so now I’m wondering if I should take the hint.

A new NY Times article on gifted education in public school dropped today. Thoughts? What isn’t working at your schools? What is working well?

Does anyone have suggestions of books or other ways to help a child understand what makes a good friend? The backstory is that kiddo, 7, has a friend who does a lot of things that aren’t all that nice to him. Friend does actually like my kid a lot, he just does things like say, “I’ll give you a toy if you do X thing you’re not supposed to do” and then my kid does X and gets in trouble. My kid definitely needs to work on not just going along with what others say, but I would also like him to put more thought into who he spends time with. I know I can’t control who he is friends with, but I’m hoping that with guidance he will make choices that are better for him. Thanks!

my daughter woke up at 4am last night and thought it was time for school, so she came to wake me up. this is VERY unusual for her, but man am i tired today. anyone else ever wonder how they ever survived having a newborn?

Our lives are pretty hectic right now with 2 jobs and 2 young kids, but I feel like my husband and I really need to set aside some time to reconnect. Any ideas? I don’t particularly want to go out to dinner because I’ve recently started a GLP-1, but if we stay in we always seem to find chores to do or watch TV and don’t really connect.

I had posted a few weeks ago that I got assigned under a new supervisor and wasn’t really sure with how my career was going now… well. I decided to just dabble my toes into what’s out there but also just… step back and stop going above and beyond at work.

Thanks to the people who offered solidarity that they were also feeling stuck because the job worked with their family for now, not that it was what they wanted.

Ok Ladies… Who let the kiddos stay up to watch baseball last night and it going to regret it later??

TBH it is my kiddo’s fall break and we don’t have a lot of plans so he can sleep as late as he wants today (and we are in the west). He is still in bed while I work from home, but still – probably going to come back to haunt me at the end of the week. (Ha!)

But seriously… I do find it really hard to send kiddo to bed when there is a playoff series (so matters) that he is truly invested it.

FULL disclosure. I personally gave up around 15 and DH and DS lasted to the end.

How and when did you explain to your toddler that you were pregnant? My first will be 2 and a half on my due date, and I’m not sure when and how to explain it to her. I’m not due till April (and I show late), so I feel like it’s too early but other people are talking about it in front of her so maybe I need to start explaining it to her? Any books you found helpful?

Where’s a good place to buy snow boots for a very early walker? I’ll keep an eye out for secondhand but not willing to spend four hours driving to garage sales, lol.

I use this clip every day to wear my hair up
