A woman wearing a long sleeve red knitted dress

This bright red dress is the pick-me-up I need as the days grow shorter.

A festive dress that works beyond the holidays, this knee-length style has long gathered sleeves, a flattering boatneck, and front-tie belt. The soft, knit fabric will keep you comfortable from nine-to-five through holiday gatherings after hours.

The Tiana-Tie Front Knitted Dress is $220 at Boden and comes in sizes 0 to 20/22. In addition to red, it also comes in navy.

What do you track or look back on at the end of the year? I look back on billables (lawyer, US), but also just added up my days off (vacation and holidays) and also how many kid sick/snow/ice days. I didn’t take completely off most of those sick/ice/snow days, but they’re still always a stressful scramble. We had 25sick/snow days in the past year! What else do you track/look back at?

What is your cut off points for driving?

We have a wedding next summer in a small town we need to attend. 2 young kids so we need car seats. 10 hour drive vs a 4-5 hour 1 stop flight. Normally, both my husband and I would say no drives more than 4-6 hours, but I’m arguing cost and car seats push me into driving.

Anyone have a recommendation for a cookbook for family-friendly dinner recipes that are simple and fast for weeknights? I have two picky kids, and limited time when I get home from work, plus we have lots of activities. I’m an ok cook but not great – it doesn’t come naturally to me (I can’t do the “just throw something together!”thing). But I want to be better and add some variety to our dinners – we are in a rut. Also prefer trying a cookbook to following a blog. TIA for any favorites!

Do any non-Catholics send their children to Catholic school?
How has the experience been?

PLITK loud pop-up ads from US Bank that appear after I’ve been sitting on the page for a few minutes. Safari on a Mac.

Ok this is a kind of fun (?) question.

I am usually a fiction reader. I have a non-fiction book I’d like to finish by year end. It’s interesting to me, but just not as interesting as fiction, so I’m not as motivated. It’s the ONE non-fiction/non-work related book I’d like to read and digest by 2026, just for my own personal goal.

I have so many other (fiction) books I want to read, that I’ve gotten as gifts or through friend swaps and I don’t want to start them until I finish this one.

Should I just assign myself “homework” to read X amount of pages every night? Caveat that most of the holiday prep is accounted for (for now).

Any cute and unique ideas for a “favorite things” party for a bunch of first grade girls? (If you haven’t heard the term before, it’s like a white elephant gift exchange where you bring your “favorite thing” to share with others who might not know about it yet. Price range 20-30. I was thinking about a touchland sanitizer with the little croc case, which my daughter thinks is SO cool, in part because it kind of looks like a phone. And it’s such an unreasonable splurge that it makes a good gift. So that’s my default, but looking for any other ideas?

You guys, I am crying… we got the flat we offered on. First place we offered. We used the same estate agent as when we left the city and he answered the phone with “Christmas has come early! You’re coming back!”

Someone recommended a good cookbook or idea book for baby and toddler meals but I can’t remember what it was. I think the person said it had large inspiration pictures. Anyone know? I need some can’t-miss inspiration to accelerate the weaning process in a 13-mo who is getting picked and is already on the small side.

I have a 7 year old who’s always liked Lego well enough but mostly treated them as miniature dolls for pretend play and wasn’t really interested in actually building with them. She’s very into Harry Potter now so I got her a couple of Harry Potter lego sets for Hanukkah. I gave her the first one last night and she was so thrilled and spent the next couple of hours building it entirely on her own. Feels like we’ve unlocked a very fun new parenting era!
