I’m on the board of a small charity that’s having a benefit party (not super expensive or fancy) and I’m supposed to invite people and I’m too scared to. I hate asking people for money and I’m also very sensitive to rejection. Helpful strategies?
Looking for a family friendly (elementary, middle school) age kids vacation in December. My daughter wants something with a beach. I am not a big fan of beaches but would be happy to do it if it’s a nice resort or if there’s other stuff to do (e.g., Costa Rica or Hawaii, which we have already been to). Traveling from the east coast but happy to go anywhere as we will have two weeks.
In search of: knee high black boots. Classic riding style with less than 1” heel, preferably. I ordered several boots from Nordstrom in the $200-$250 range and was really disappointed with the leather quality. They look good in the photos, but then they arrived and the leather looked thin and more like pleather. I missed the La Canadienne sales during the NAS, partly because I wasn’t sure I could justify the expense. I am curious about Thursday Boots. I have a pair of booties from a few years ago and they’re fine. I don’t wear them as often as I could because they’re kind of an ugly style and they smell really strongly of leather. But, they do seem decent quality. Is it worth trying a pair of knee high boots from them? Any other suggestions for me in the <$250?
Good morning CMoms! I am starting a niche-area director-level position at a F100 company this month, and this will likely turn into a VP-level role within the next few years. This is a huge step for me and my family, and while I am a little freaked by everything at this point, I’m ready for it. I have worked so hard to get to this point and I am so proud, truly!!!
Relying on the mom expertise here — what should I be doing in this short term to prepare? Kids are back to school (three, spanning from pre-K to middle) and testing out the daily rhythm now, so I think we can manage that. I am going back to the office for the first time since before 2020 and need a good set of work clothes after body changes — I’m working on a capsule wardrobe now so I’m not panic buying the days before but I’m still a bit stressed about this. Husband is an attorney but reasonably flexible with schedule so he will pick up some of what I need to put down at home. Overall, just trying to do what I can now to make the first few months as smooth as possible.

What’s a good way to get rid of kitchen sink flies? We had them last summer too and they eventually went away, but I’d like a quicker solution than waiting them out. We’ve tried boiling water down the sink, keeping the sink stoppered when we’re not using it, but they still manage to hang out around our sink.
Are you a member of your school’s PTA/PTO? I donate every year and I’m trying to decide whether to start going to meetings and get involved. I have two younger elementary kids (one just started K) and one in preschool who will eventually go to this school as well. I can’t decide if it’s a good way to build community or a just a huge pain and possible drama that I don’t need.
It’s a public school where some parents seem to have a lot of power (choosing their kids teachers, etc.) which I find pretty annoying generally but otherwise we like the school.
I’m almost two years out from my C-section and at the time, I felt like it went well and I healed pretty quickly, but there is still a small section of the scar that is raised/red and not as healed as the thin, almost white lines of the other parts. I’ve done scar mobilization and massage from the beginning but never really used any creams – the doctor said it wasn’t really necessary and that results can be mixed, so I didn’t need to bother unless I wanted to. At this point, I would like for this to heal better since it sometimes itches or feels uncomfortable. Any advice for me?
Suggestions for visiting DC in October with an 11 year old and 13 year old? We want to see the typical sights (Smithsonians, monuments, White House), but I’ll take suggestions. Trying to keep costs down. Tips for getting around and eating? Things to avoid? How long should we stay?
Has anyone here stayed at the Disneyworld Swan or Dolphin and can you give a review? We’re planning a Disney trip for spring break and have only stayed on property before, but it looks like the Swan/Dolphin are still very close and have way better deals for suites (and my youngest is a terrible sleeper so we’d prefer a suite).
