A collage of washable flats

If you’re returning to the office soon and aren’t exactly excited about slipping your feet back into heels, don’t worry, we’ve got you — today we’re rounding up the best washable flats. Washable flats are great for anyone, but with added parent-related hazards, like miscellaneous sticky foods your toddler drops on the floor (and on you), they’re perfect for working moms.

What are your favorite washable flats for work and weekend? If you’ve found other washable flats you like — perhaps from smaller, less well-known brands — let us know in the comments!

By the way, if you prefer heels for the office but want to ease your feet back into work shoes with extra-comfy ones, check out our Guide to Comfortable Heels at Corporette.

The Best Washable Flats

Rothy’s

Rothy’s focuses on sustainability (you can read all about it on their sustainability page), and they’ve repurposed more than 76 million water bottles so far. Many of those bottles have been transformed into The Point, a reader favorite, which we’ve featured in our Workwear Hall of Fame at Corporette. (Kat prefers The Loafer and The Flat.)

I looove this cranberry plaid, but The Point also comes in 20 other colors and patterns, including black, navy, ecru, blush, houndstooth, and leopard print. Available in sizes 5–13, it’s $145.

(Psst: looking for a referral code for $20 off your first purchase? Try this one.)

Washing instructions: Put soles and insoles in the washing machine and use cold water and mild detergent on the delicate cycle. Air day.

Birdies

Birdies was founded by two moms who wanted to create “a comfortable and stylish slipper for home entertaining” but soon realized that women were wearing them outside the house, too. Now they call them “the stylish flat that’s secretly a slipper.” (If you want to see some very non-stylish indoor shoes, just come to my house.)

We featured Birdies’ first washable style, The Blackbird Loafer, over at Corporette. It’s available in eggshell, jet, camo, black calf hair, and black with a fun cheetah tassel — as well as the pictured coral — and comes in sizes 5–12 for $120.

Washing instructions: Put soles and insoles in the washing machine and use cold water and gentle detergent on the delicate cycle. Air dry. (Instructional video here.)

Allbirds

Like Rothy’s, Allbirds emphasizes sustainability. In addition to merino wool, their raw materials include tree fiber, recycled plastic bottles, castor bean oil, sugarcane, and recycled cardboard (more info available on their materials pages).

Their machine washable style is the Tree Breezer flat, which comes in 23 colors. To me, the very simple style and rough texture make it look a little more casual than the two flats above. The price is $95, and the size range is 5–11.

Washing instructions: Remove insoles and put shoes in a delicates bag. Wash in cold water with a mild detergent on the delicate cycle. Air dry. (Hand wash insoles.)

Vince Camuto

I had no idea that Vince Camuto offered washable flats — and they’re now on sale at Nordstrom, where they have great reviews. The Fabeau knit flat (lucky sizes only, alas) comes in both leopard and snake print and is marked down to $29.97 from $79.95 (!). The Femils knit flat is also only available in lucky sizes and is marked down to $31.98 from $79.95 (!).

Fortunately, many more sizes are available at VinceCamuto.com and Amazon, where you can find the Alyah square-toe flat (pictured above), Artemid loafer, and Celete point-toe flat (which is a bit more casual). They’re available in solids and prints in sizes 5–11; all are now on sale for $59.99.

Washing instructions: Not available online except for the phrase “toss in the wash.”

Readers, do tell: What do you think are the best washable flats?

Psst: some other options for comfortable flats, including some of our favorite comfortable flats for work in general:

I am a total Rothy’s convert, they’re all my picky feet want to wear now. I prefer points for work (biz casual) and have many colors. Two pro tips: 1. Always make sure you’re washing with cold water. People put ice cubes in the wash with their shoes (esp if it’s summer and the tap might be warm-ish). Never put them in the dryer. Heat will shrink them. So also be careful keeping them in a hot car, etc. 2. Despite what the website says they are NOT true to size. I wear 2 sizes up from my street size in points, but it really varies. Order 3-4 sizes and return what doesn’t fit. They should feel loose. There are FB groups that are really great at helping people with sizing. If you follow the directions, they really do wash up nicely and seem to last.

Sketchers also has one! The Cleo flat. It’s about $50.
