Just had my first ultrasound for first pregnancy and it was crazy seeing bub on the sonogram and seeing the heartbeat. Prayers appreciated, I’m 8.5 weeks along and planning to tell our parents this weekend.
My kids are at a great art camp and by the time summer ends for us will have been there for 3 weeks. My kids love this camp and the owner is incredibly kind and patient with them. She really goes above and beyond. I’d like to get the lady who owns the camp and is there everyday something to say thank you. Any ideas? Budget is $50-100.
I have a 7 year old and a 2 year old. How do I get the older kid to stop talking baby talk to the baby? He thinks her words for things are hilarious so he keeps repeating them back to her. We’ve told him that using the right words is how she learns, but he keeps up the baby talk.
What do you do with clothing that is very good quality but you just never reach for anymore? Example: dress shirt from Talbot’s but I’m not working right now; A&F “going out top” but I never go out; a beautiful vintage top that’s polyester and it’s honestly too hot to wear in my climate. Just get rid of this stuff right? I feel like clothing is garbage these days but if I’m not reaching for these pieces for years it’s silly to hang onto them.

What chores are your kids regularly doing? I was memorably described by my nana as a “cream puff” and really struggled with cooking, chores, life management in my young adulthood, so keen to make sure my 9 year old leaves home with plenty of skills.
We’ve just introduced helping with handwashing and post-dinner clean-up, but don’t have a super regular routine. He’ll tidy his room, takes the recycling out to the on-street recycling, run to the shop for ingredients, and other tasks when requested – but is definitely more enthusiastic about cooking tasks than cleaning. Yesterday, he made the shortcrusst for the quiche, which makes me think he can be genuinely helpful more regularly. He has a couple pre-dinner hours after school.
At what age did your kids stop finding farting funny and start teasing/complaining about friends who farted in a crowded room? Like, the switch flips eventually, right? Please tell me a number below 30, thank you!
Thoughts on hiring a babysitter for a few hours on vacation? There’s what is apparently a well-reviewed agency where we will be skiing early next year but we don’t know any of the sitters personally. My husband and I would like to ski together for just a few hours and our toddler won’t be potty-trained by then, so not eligible for the kids’ program at the resort. I’m not sure if I would feel comfortable hiring a babysitter, even during the daytime, when it’s a place where I’m less familiar and I don’t have local word of mouth for the exact person. For those of you who have done this, any experiences to share?

You all always have the best gift ideas – I am looking for a gift for my nephew, he’s turning 14. He plays soccer. Not much into reading. So much good discussion yesterday on consequences and parenting. All I would ask is pretty much everything on parenting that people reserve judgement, if it works for you and your family great but that doesn’t mean it’ll work for someone else. If your parenting experience is so enjoyable also know that there’s a lot of luck in that from your temperament, your kids and spouse temperament, financial stress or lack thereof, work stress and lack thereof on and on.
