Eddie Bauer kids says
Eddie Bauer seems to have suddenly shuttered its kids section. I received an email about a sale just two weeks ago, but now the kids section of the site is gone with a weird message. I’m bummed! My oldest son really loved their clothes and pajamas, they had the BEST boys bathing suits (silky liner instead of mesh) and we have been wearing their winter coats for years.
I wonder what happened…and if there’s any items on Amazon or eBay I can snap up.

Happy 4th! Anyone have fun plans? We’re seeing family, swimming, hopefully spending time outside. Ironically we live in DC but never spend the 4th there as the crowds and neighborhood fireworks spook me. Maybe someday!

We’re vacationing in Bar Harbor, Maine, which is a fun place to celebrate the 4th. We visit every summer but haven’t been here on the 4th since I was in elementary school, so I’m looking forward to it.

Also near DC! It’s my birthday tomorrow so I’m getting up early to get my free Starbucks drink. Then, hanging out at our community pool, eating barbecue, and watching fireworks on TV with a cocktail (Smitten Kitchen’s Porch Swing, for anyone interested.)
You couldn’t pay me to go to downtown DC tomorrow night.

Birthday twin! Happy birthday!!
My parents are coming to town to see us tonight. We’ll make homemade ice cream and burgers tomorrow and watch the fireworks over the river. I’m so ready.

Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday to both of you!

Happy birthday both!
We are camping tomorrow. It’ll be great when we get there, but right now one of our European clients has a proposal deadline on Friday so I am scrambling to finish everything before I am off the grid for a couple days…

We’re going over to my parents’ house for dinner. We just got back from a trip on Sunday, so it’ll be a low-key day. We are planning to make ice cream, so that’ll be fun!

I’m in the UK but flying to my parents at the crack of dawn tomorrow so I’ll miss my annual ritual of tipping my husbands tea down the sink and chanting no taxation without representation…
But it’s the UK election and hoping we’ll see the back of this awful, awful government

We live in DC about half a mile from the national mall. We are having some friends over to grill in the afternoon, and then walking to the mall to watch the fireworks. Since we don’t have to get on the metro or drive afterwards, I don’t find the crowds that bad.

Due to a scheduling SNAFU, we had a grocery delivery sit on our porch this morning for about 2 hours (75 degrees out). I threw out the meat and milk, what do you think about the safety of the following items that are generally not refrigerated: bread, apples, raspberries, cereal, bottled protein shakes, bottled coffee drinks?
Anon says
Why wouldn’t all that stuff be fine? TBH I wouldn’t even have thrown out milk. 2 hours out of the fridge is generally considered the upper limit so unless it seems obviously spoiled it’s probably ok. Meat it’s harder to tell when it’s gone bad so it makes more sense to toss that.

I am sure they are fine! I am guessing most delivery trucks are at least that hot. I personally would not have thrown out the milk unless it was bad — it tastes bad when it turns — but I guess I’m lax in this area. I live in NYC, and our milk doesn’t always last until the “sell by” date before going bad, even in our fridge, so I think it spends a lot of time unrefrigerated somewhere in the delivery process. You might find the apples and berries don’t last as long as usual, but you will be able to tell when they go bad. Same with the bread. I’m sure the bottled stuff has a long shelf life.

I’d keep all pantry/shelf stable items. I’m also less conservative on meat prep rules so I would have considered keeping that. To me that is the equivalent of bad practice marinating or defrosting just on the cusp of food poisoning levels.
GCA says
Raspberries go moldy if you look at them funny, I’d keep them but eat them fast. Bread is accustomed to being hot, having been baked – the only real issue is if condensation built up in the bread bag while it was sitting out. Everything else should be fine.
Anonymous says
I’d keep all those items but expect the bread and fruit to get moldy more quickly than usual.
