Related question to the one about hobbies- how do you squeeze in exercise? What time do you go? DH and I are struggling to find time. DH tried 5 in the morning for a while but it was grueling when we also had things going on in the evening.
Sending love to our Florida posters. Big storms are scary without kids and a whole nother level with them. Hope you all are doing okay.
My sister got one when her boys were 3 and 6. She bought a new one last year for then 8 and 11, because the safety features were wearing down (i.e. netting was substantially ripped etc) The twelve year old doesn’t use it much anymore, but it has been the BEST thing for younger one and it was a god send during COVID. The boys “get out” so much energy.
She hasn’t had a lot of battles about safety and limits it to 2 – 3 kids. There is a very short window where a lot of kids can actually fit and bounce (say 6 -7 ish) and i would strongly suggest direct supervision for that age group anyways.
we all hear about broken arms from trampolines, but they aren’t the death traps that they used to me (spring not exposed)
This is probably a lovely top but in the photo the model looks like she is wearing a costume for…I don’t know what – scared forest sprite?
Does anyone on here have a child who occasionally sleep-walks or has night terrors? I’m curious how you have managed this as far as sleepovers. Our daughter is getting to the age where friends are starting to have them, and I’m not sure if this is something that she’ll just have to bow out of? She doesn’t sleep walk/have night terrors consistently, but being up late, out of her routine, or anxious about something (starting a new school year, etc.) all seem to be triggers, and of course, a sleepover seems like a perfect scenario for this. The night terrors especially can be very unsettling to see, she acts absolutely terrified but isn’t totally awake. My biggest concern is the other parents having to settle her if it happens, which is of course unfair to them.
She never remembers having a night terror/sleep walking in the morning, so it isn’t anything she is worried about (and of course, she doesn’t understand why we’d be so concerned about it and is angry that we’ve held off on sleepovers so far!). I know that we could host individual friends at our house, but I am worried about her missing out on group sleepovers that someone else is hosting or school overnights, etc.
There have been lots of hobby threads here over the years. Question for the mothers among you: did/do you keep up your hobbies when your kids are young? I had a conference call yesterday with an icebreaker component where we all shared a favorite hobby. The first person to go said “as a mother of two young ones, my hobby is surviving,” which got a bunch of laughs, but then every single other mother in the group built on that for their own responses (“also in the mom club so my hobby is feeding my kids,” “as a mother, my favorite FORMER hobby was ____” and so on). It seemed like the vibe was that hobbies are 100% not happening with young kids, but at the same time, I know more women in my personal life who have kept hobbies up to SOME extent, including those outside the home. Where do you fall and what helped you make the time?
We have a big back yard and no pool and kids who are 3 8 and 9. The older ones are asking for a tramp for christmas. I’ve done some reading and it sounds like risks are mitigated significantly if you keep kids under 6 off of it and if you only have one kid bounce at a time. do any of you have a backyard tramp? Have you had rules around it and have you been successful enforcing them? Help me think about whether this would be crazy!
We already have a big playset – other backyard fun ideas welcome! No big trees unfortunately!
