We do not have a stroller wagon — just a foldable one from Costco — but it has been a WORKHORSE. When the kids were littler, it was mostly a kid transport device (no straps or seatbelts, we’d just put some pillows in to reduce head bumps). Now that they’re older, it’s great for hauling equipment (e.g. bringing folding chairs to the soccer game). Highly recommend adding a wagon to your “kid transport” repertoire if you live in a walkable area.
I am completely overwhelmed with my BigLaw (albeit non-partner track) job and a host of medical and learning needs that have cropped up with my kids. I can’t outsource the kid issues to anyone and they are also not FMLA eligible. I need to look for a new job but am struggling to find time to do it. What do you do in a situation like this? Quit and just focus on looking for something new? Lean perilously far out at the current job and pray that something will come through?
New to be mom here…does breast pumping hurt? All I’ve seen online is that there is “discomfort” but I want to hear from women who have actually gone through it. I’m very averse to breastfeeding and I don’t want to do it at all. But I could be convinced to pump, as long as it doesn’t hurt.
Do your kid’s schools mix up classes from year to year? There is an unsubstantiated rumour that they are going to introduce this at my son’s school (historically 2nd year to 7th year stays in their class groups throughout) and the school whatsapp is going WILD. And I kind of like the idea, my kid is pretty reserved and hasn’t really vibed with the boys in his class, and it feels like an opportunity to maybe make some new pals and maybe break up some unhelpful friend group dynamics.
I’m expecting my 2nd and there will be a 5 year age gap. Should I get one of those strollers with a jumpseat/standing board for the older kid? We haven’t used a stroller for him in a while, but I feel like he’ll be jealous of baby in the stroller and want to ride too. I’ve been seeing ads for the Austlen, looks intriguing. Anyone have any recommendations?
I’ve never heard of a school where the kids stay in the same class groups from year to year. We mix it up every year. I think it can be good to meet the rest of the grade and yeah, maybe your son will vibe with a different group of boys better. I would have hated it as a kid if I was in the exact same class the whole time.
Where do you keep kids’ library books while they’re at your house? My mom was incredibly organized and I am not. Were destined to lose a library book if they don’t have a designated spot, but I’m struggling to figure out where that should be…
Looking for toys that will keep a almost 5 year old and a 11 months old entertained during road trips. Obviously different toys for each kid. Any tips would be appreciated.
Best website to create wishlists from different stores? Trying to channel my husband’s family’s generosity into the right directions..
Replying to qs from yesterday here in case no one is checking yesterday’s post!
RE: SW DC pools, we go to Randall in the summer when outdoor pool season starts, and very much take the attitude of “you get what you pay for” which is that it is free so we do not expect a country club experience. The bathrooms, loungers, and pool area are long overdue for a refresh, which is actually coming in a few years, but the pool itself is generally refreshing and the zero entry is perfect for little kids. Go when it opens for the smallest crowds and best experience, usually by afternoons it is a zoo. For really little kids there is a children’s pool near Van Ness Elementary which is very small but we have never gone there. For indoor pools agree Eastern Market is also not the nicest (but also being renovated soon), but Barry Farms has a nice kids area and a waterslide that occasionally runs. I say occasionally because again, you get what you pay for.
My youngest is almost six and pretty tall for his age, but we are still using a five point harness at home. We are visiting family in a couple of weeks and will be renting a car. Product suggestions for traveling with a car seat at this age? Is it insane to use a low back booster for this trip? I know we are supposed to keep them in the harness until they go to college or whatever, but trying to think through what’s logistically easiest and realistic.
Could use encouragement from the hive. I am currently 5.5 months pregnant and absolutely exhausted. Between work, a toddler, sciatica, ongoing morning sickness and a busy upcoming weekend I am really starting to resent my husband. He has no dietary limitations, can drink beer, no physical discomfort, etc.. I know it’s not his fault, but part of me is getting irritated that I am struggling and he can carry on life as usual. I know this all sounds absolutely ridiculous, but has anyone dealt with this?
Any recommendations for car snacks for a long road trip? Kids are 5, 3, and 1, so need to stay away from choking hazards, especially in the car. I’m looking more for entertainment/change of pace snacks truthfully than nutritional value (I know that sounds bad but it’s a long trip!)
