Would love some help with my future-lawyer first grader. He’s had a notoriously strict teacher this year, and for the most part, her very structured approach has been great for him academically. But the rules are starting to wear, and in particular, he has become obsessed with logical inconsistencies and other flaws in her approach to classroom management/ discipline. He will remember exact phrases she uses in certain situations, for example, and then kind of lose his mind if she applies the same standards differently in another situation. Listening to him talk about it all gives me great hope for his LSAT prospects, but it’s also pretty clear that he’s challenging the teachers A LOT in front of the other kids, and that they’re losing patience. Any suggestions for how to coach him through his feelings about all this? I know that 7- and 8-year-olds tend to be concerned about fairness/ justice, but this really goes beyond that developmental interest.

I need to vent, I’m having a bad day.

I have a very smart, stubborn and active 4 year old. He does not stop. He will most likely be diagnosed with adhd at some point and we’ll do our best to make that work for him.

I usually tell myself things will be easier to manage once he’s just a little older and I just need to be a little more patient. But that day never seems to come. He barely listens to me and just does what he wants. I’m tired of constantly trying to correct or cajole him about EVERYTHING. I can’t let him be feral, but our day to day is crushing me.

Can someone just tell me it’ll get better and not some different other version of horrible? To be fair he is also very loving and sweet at times throughout the day.

Mild rant – Cabins on the lake book 12 months before. Summer camp #1 books in December/January. Summer Camp #2 Books in February. ‘Fun’ half day camps get released in April/May. Dad’s vacation requests get final approval a month out. There are 4 weeks when there are zero camps and no school. Anybody else having to bust out full on project management software to make sure no kids get left at home with no care?

My daughter has been going to 2 week sleepaway camp for several summers and usually packs in a trunk & backpack to sleep in very rustic cabins/bunks. This summer she is doing her regular sleepaway camp + 4 nights/5 day at a sleepaway sports camp that is taking place on a college campus where the girls will be housed in dorms.

We have a packing list for the sports camp but no guidance on what to pack *in*. Like, is it a hotel/college dorm setup where they can pack a gear bag + suit case and will have drawers to unpack into, or more like her sleepaway camp where they need to live out of their trunk?

I do plan to email but was wondering if anyone had experience and can speak generally to this?

My 19-month-old (18 adjusted) is starting to get fearful about ordinary things like loud noises and the bathtub water running. Any tips for managing this in a way that doesn’t make it worse? One thing I read said “don’t tell them it’s not a big deal/not scary, it is to them” but I also don’t want to go in the other direction and act like something should be terrifying.

Approximately how many hours of actual work do you do during your workday?

Hello! We have a 10 hour road trip (each way) + 1 week at a rental house vacation coming up with a newly 5 year old and almost 3 year old. Please give me your best road trip toys, apps, snacks, suggestions, anything! We don’t typically do iPads but will be for this trip so ideas for those too please!

Edited to add- the 5 year old loooves electronic games so I think she’ll be easy to entertain on the iPad if she has some solid games. The 3 year old is going to need more variety.
