Nori Press white steam iron

I have an old over-the-door ironing board I never hung up after moving. With the Nori Press, I may never need to.

This travel-ready steam iron cuts your ironing time in half. The unique design irons both sides at the same time, and the compact design reaches hard-to-iron spots. It has six fabric settings and holds enough water for 10 minutes of steaming.

The Nori Press is on sale for $90 (down from $120) and comes in six colors.

We got our tick-borne encephalitis vaccines today. Pharmacist thought we were weirdos for paying for it, but we’re spending a big chunk of the summer in Scandinavia and I don’t want to have a nervous breakdown if we get bitten. My son had a tick last summer and I (normally fairly calm in a crisis) freaked out and we don’t even have TBE here.

Posting here instead of the main page because you all are nicer. I am one of the world’s leading experts in an extremely specialized topic. I do not have a Ph.D. Hypothetically, what are the risks and benefits of agreeing to serve as an expert witness on the topic in potentially high-profile litigation? I have no problem presenting my work to big important people and advising anyone who asks , but somehow testifying under oath and submitting to cross-examination seems like a recipe for inadvertently tanking my career if I say anything that can be misinterpreted in any way. On the other hand, testifying could potentially advance the broader goals of the work.

Has anyone else been at a job where it’s changed dramatically over time due to layoffs, rounds of different managers/lack of managers, and mergers & acquisitions? I feel like I’m overloaded with responsibilities leftover from people who’ve been laid off, yet at the same time I’m not getting to do the kind of work I find most fulfilling. Normally, it would make sense to have a direct conversation about what my job description is/should be, but I’m so over it I’ve been aggressively job searching instead. I’ve had a few interviews but no offers yet and it’s hard not to get discouraged or let my frustration show. Any advice, or ways to approach this?

we had a ROUGH evening in our house. Backstory – i have fraternal twin girl first graders. One is a bit more coordinated than the other. They do dance and soccer together. Dance teacher often asks Twin A to demonstrate. Soccer coach sometimes asks Twin A to help her sister and/or Twin A takes it upon herself to “help” her sister….Twin B obviously does not like being coached by her sister. It makes her feel like she is being criticized and then feels bad about herself. During soccer practice yesterday I reminded Twin A multiple times that she is not the coach. In the car on the way home, Twin B was in tears, ended up saying that she wishes Twin A wasn’t her sister, that she was part of another family. Twin A was hysterical because Twin B said that. DH is of course out of town. While practice is a bit late for us, I decided we needed a family meeting over popsicles when we got home so we could talk it out, Twin A was doubling down on how the dance teacher asked her to do x, y and z, Twin B reiterated how she wants a different family and how no one understand her, more tears from all – I think in the end Twin A sort of understood that she should only help Twin B if she asks for help and Twin B understood that it is ok to feel mad/sad, but pinching and saying mean things is not the way to go about it. And i know all sisters say they hate each other from time to time. But my heart was breaking, and of course i’m tearing up as i sit here and write this. I have a sister who I’m not close with, and I really wanted something different for my girls.

In the theme of emails, we got an email from my 4 year old’s piano teacher (a pull-out enrichment class at his daycare). She sent a great clip of him playing, but had to mention he does need a “lot of redirecting due to his attention and focus”, and she was happy that he played the song.

I’m usually one to always overthink (especially about this kid of mine)/side with teachers, but like…he’s 4 and has had weekly lessons for less than 3 months? Also, part of the reason we put him in piano was to work on attention/focus…?

Checking in on the poster who shared yesterday re the email from her daughter’s 1st grade teacher – how are you?

I have a 1st grader as well and it seems like the challenges around reading “fluency” are pretty pervasive. I’ve posted this before, but I know a bunch of families that had to get tutors or alternatively, navigate setting up extra help with the school.

Just here to own my mom bias. I have 3 daughters. Eldest is Super Sporty- I honestly have no idea how many sports she has played over the years; the answer is something like “all of them except soccer and hockey.” My youngest is on a similar path.

My middle is more theatre-dancey. She tried out for a competitive dance team* last week and DH and I were (privately) grousing over the level of commitment/fees (costumes! team jackets! show tickets! etc) and I just added up what we spend on uniforms, equipment, and registration fees for my older kids’ sports and it is NOT EVEN CLOSE. I apparently have just become accustomed to dropping $500 per sport per season (team reg, equipment, uniform) but apparently when it’s all neatly summarized in one annual fee it’s unreasonable.

* it is not so much a competitive team but a performance team that does one official competition a year, and it’s a highly athletic acro/hip hop situation that made me sweat just watching the tryouts

Anyway, all is good and assuming she makes the team she tried out for we will happily enroll her, but I just wanted to share my own bias in case you find yourself choking on dance costume/recital fees while happily shelling out for yet another pair of cleats or personalized team jacket! And also funny, my middle is much stronger dancer/performer than my oldest is at nearly any of her sports, so shame on me twice ;).
