Some of the articles of interest to working mothers that we’ve seen around the web recently…

  • NBC News reported that compared to other parts of the country, the odds of having a high rate of late-stage pregnancy loss are nearly three times greater in Southern states. The South also has higher rates of postpartum depression.
  • The Guardian reported that British parents will now be able to take two weeks of bereavement leave after a miscarriage before 24 weeks. (They’re already entitled to bereavement leave in the case of a stillbirth after 24 weeks.)
  • Business Insider looked at the booming baby tech industry, especially among millennial parents.
  • The Atlantic [gift link] answered a reader question about wanting to want to play with your kids but … not.
  • The Atlantic [gift link] also noted that fewer young people are getting into relationships than their counterparts in previous generations.
  • CBS News reported that a new study found that parents providing drinks — or even just letting underage kids try alcohol — is linked to heavier drinking and alcohol-related issues later on.
  • In The Cut, a woman wrote about the benefits of a six-month sex sabbatical with her husband (with mixed opinions in the reader comments!).
  • Your Laugh of the Week comes rom McSweeney’s, with “Nothing Stands Between Us Teachers and the Brainwashing of America’s Children, Except This Beef Jerky in the Pencil Sharpener.”
