Those sick day tips are laughable. “Have backup care available during the week” and “Schedule down time every Friday” are ridiculous. If women had those options, you wouldn’t need to write an article on how to deal with sick days.

I was hoping that the sick day post would have more useful options. However, I do think I could be more proactive about finding backup care during the week. We have a babysitting list from a local nanny agency that has a smattering of women that claim to be available some weekday mornings or afternoons. I just need to set up a time to prescreen the sitters that might be available during the weekday, as I’m not just going to leave my child with a total stranger. It won’t be reliable, but if I could text two or three sitters that I am comfortable with, odds are that one might be available for a few hours. My plan is to set up some brunches with DH or short morning meetings and get a few sitters on rotation that both me and my child could be comfortable with.
I’m home sick with 2yo kiddo today, and we have probably done about 2 hours of screentime total today, in 20 to 30 minute bursts. WAY more than normal, but it lets me finish up an email, make a brief call, and is hopefully helping her relax and drink a lot of liquid. It is not ideal and I had no idea we could expect this many sick days (probably 10 in the last 8 weeks) when she first started in a center. She used to be home with a nanny.
