I’m having a slight freakout about my kids being enrolled in summer camps that are going to have them outside basically the whole day. I know this is the dream for many parents, but my kids are super pale and burn easily and freckle even more easily. There’s basically no shade at these camps and I don’t think the camp will reapply sunscreen, although I plan to send it with my kids and ask them to do it (but they’re still young so whether or not this actually happens is very much up in the air). They’ve basically never had this kind of sustained sun exposure before. Even on beach vacations we usually take a break mid-day to get out of the most intense sun and let people nap or rest.

Okay – here’s a “what doctor do I see next?” question. My 4 year old had a chronic cough and congestion, and was constantly complaining about being tired. The pediatrician gave him an antibiotic, which immediately cleared up the congestion/cough and he was like a different kid, energy level wise. But once his dose ended, the cough/fatigue/congestion came back within like 24 hours of coming off the meds, so they sent us to a pulmonologist. Pulmonologist gave him an inhaler, but also did a chest x-ray. Chest x-ray indicated possible bronchitis, so they gave antibiotics and his cough immediately cleared up. Cough/congestion/fatigue immediately came back (24 hours). Then, four days later had a positive strep test, so went back on per pediatrician. Cough/congestion/fatigue immediately cleared up.

He’s off the meds again, and already within 24 hours – Cough/congestion/fatigue starting again. I’m at a total loss — he’s a shell of himself unless he’s on antibiotics, which I’m terrified for him to take again, but nothing is touching the underlying issue — not the inhaler, pediatrician is totally stumped, and pulmonologist is also stumped. ENT next? Infectious disease? General blood work looked normal. I can’t get either doctor to look at him wholistically, they are just treating the symptom, then stumped when he’s sick again off meds.

Husband dressed toddler for daycare today. Put socks and shoes in the bag, because toddler takes her shoes off in the car anyway. I drive kids to daycare, realize husband packed baby’s socks for toddler. They do not cover her feet and she’s got sneakers on, so potential for blisters because of rubbing. I tell him this, he’s now grumbling because I asked him to drop off socks for toddler at daycare on his way to work. I WFH 9-5, he’s at work noon-10pm (not at home). He’s grumbling because he’s “already late” and “doesn’t have time for this” but like…it’s his fault right? He gave her the wrong socks so now he has to fix the issue, right? And he is the one who didn’t manage his time well enough so that he’s already running late? AITA? I feel like no, but maybe I’m wrong.

I don’t know where else to put this, BUT I’m proud of myself for finally seeming to get my arms around feeding my crew on activity nights. Tuesday/Thursday the kids basically get off the bus around 4;15, and we hop to activities. We basically eat three times – hearty snack off the bus, in between activities, then again at home. I’ve been leaning into ordering food, and was frustrated at the expense/health factor. Between being a little smarter with frozen food, and leaning into my crock pot, I actually have a few decent staples that work well for these evenings. We still aren’t winning any huge health awards, but at least on the nights I’m leaning into chicken fingers, I’m not paying to have them delivered :)

Any wins in your house this week?

Reading the comments on yesterday’s post about Mother’s Day made me wonder if its unusual that I don’t do anything different for Mother’s Day and nor does my family. My own mother/grandmothers are all dead. I don’t do anything to celebrate my MIL – I did initially but then decided that was not my job and husband could organize something for her or presents from the kids if he wanted. She is a plane flight away so I don’t think we’ve ever been with her on Mother’s Day. Does anyone else not do anything?

For cb ha posting a burner email to chat portugal/scotland, TIA!!
