Organizing Thursday: Magnetic Ski and Snowboard Mount

This might be a me thing, but I think this magnetic ski and snowboard mount is brilliant.
Instead of leaning a pile of skis and snowboards against your car (and having them fall into a tangled pile), keep everything upright with this vehicle mount. Simply stick the mount on the side of your car and put everyone’s gear in its own slot. The soft, waterproof barrier protects your car from scratches and dings while keeping your equipment upright as you suit up or tailgate.
Not into snowsports? Use it for other long recreational gear like fishing rods or hiking poles.
SnoStrip’s protective ski and snowboard mount is available at Amazon for under $50.

Has anyone here been to a Grand Velas? Thoughts on whether it’s worth the steep price tag?
Has anyone sent their baby/child to Kindercare? Any thoughts on the quality compared to other daycares you looked at? We toured the one closest to our house and it seemed a little… cold? Corporate? I’m not sure how to describe it. They didn’t really tell us anything about their educational curriculum, but then again we’ll have an infant. We’re hoping to stay with the same daycare until he starts kindergarten.
My son and I were playing I’m Going On A Picnic (memory game where you pick a food for each letter of the alphabet) while waiting at the doctor’s office this morning and he picked “deer cake” for D. I told him that is not a real food, and he insisted that it is, remember when we had it a couple months ago…
Turns out he had thought mousse was moose…and misremembered it as deer.
What hilarious things have your kids done recently?
DS (4) watches his IPad during mealtimes (except for lunch at school). When he’s at home he doesn’t want to eat unless he’s watching his IPad. This habit has been going on for a long time and will be difficult to break. I blame DH for encouraging this but that doesn’t matter at this point. How can we wean him off his IPad during mealtimes? He is an extremely picky eater and I am sure the IPad use is contributing to that.
Purely for fun, please vote on the “controversy” in our house this week. My daughter’s valentines cards for preschool came with a little box to put loose candy in. I was going to make them as designed. My husband thought we absolutely couldn’t do that and we had to give individual fun sized candy bags instead + the empty box. We both think the other one is a little nuts.
For those with older kids, do you count it as “screen time” when your kids are doing stuff on the computer or ipad for school (i.e. handwriting without tears, various apps like Lolito, MathFactLab, etc.)? I’m guessing not, since these are required for school and there’s no getting around it now (their standardized tests are all online!) but it feels like my kids are looking at screens a lot now in the mornings and night.
Any brands/recommendations for where to buy pants for a skinny baby? He’s almost 13 months and still in 9 month pants that are really more like shorts because the waistband on the 12 month ones isn’t tight enough. I thought I could get through until spring, but we’re getting another cold snap and since he learned to walk he refuses to be bundled in a blanket. (I’m sure this has been asked in the past, but I didn’t want to have to hunt for it.)
A parenting win others could steal:
Yesterday I gave my very sick toddler a toy doctor kit. It filled the whole boring day stuck at home. And his attitude completely changed towards medical visits. After a recent bout with like 8 pediatrician appointments and an ER visit (yay flu season) he was getting scared and angry, now he sounds calm and curious about “the real doctors”.
My outgoing and brave three year old is suddenly shy and hides behind me when he encounters new people and places. I know this is developmentally normal. Just curious about other people’s experiences, is he going to revert back to his old self at some point or does this introvert mom possibly have a mini me in the family? Watching their personalities develop is absolutely fascinating to me.
Do your kids want to talk when you’re on work travel or when they are away? When I travelled weekly for work, we never spoke. My son (7) has been at his grandparents abroad for 5 days (returning Sunday) and only deigned to speak to us last night. He’s very comfortable at my mom and dads, having a blast, and eating all sorts of ridiculous food (octopus!), but speaking to us makes him a bit melancholy, so he’d rather not. He wouldn’t even let me go into the airport with him when he left!
