Anyone else seriously job hunting right now? I’ve interviewed at four different companies in the last few months and have been rejected over and over. My current job is getting worse by the day and it’s hard not to be demoralized. I know it’s a tough market but… ugh.
What do your kids call your step parent? My mom and “stepdad” aren’t married but have been together since I was 8. She will never marry him because he’s financially irresponsible – a constant refrain when I lived with them. They were both very hurt when I didn’t want mom’s bf to walk me down the aisle. Now I’m pg and they’re very hurt that I don’t want baby to call BF granddad. My father is not in the picture.
I have never seen BF as a father figure. I know that is hurtful to him because he’s been around for so long. But his and my mother’s relationship has always been tumultuous. She would kick him out every couple of years. They’re always shouting at each other. He’s never worked or contributed to the household.
He and I don’t have the best relationship. He used to make me big promises but he’s never delivered on any of them. He also worked against my interests with my mom; he thinks I’m a spoiled brat because my college was paid for. But my mom didn’t pay for my college; her parents gave her money for most of it and her child support settlement from my dad paid for the rest. Both of them see all that money as her money not mine. Any other support she’s given me has always had strings, which he supports wholeheartedly because he doesn’t think I deserve any support to begin with, notwithstanding the fact that he’s been mooching off her for decades.
Example: my mom bought me a (used) car when I turned 16. It was in her name only. The primary motivator seems to have been control. I had a 10 pm curfew and she would threaten to call the cops to report the car stolen if I was a minute late. She made good on that threat once; I was going to a 9 pm movie with friends and told her I’d be home when the movie was over around 11. I leave the movie theater and cops are at the car. Thank god for small towns; the cop who took the call went to our church so he knew my mom had been bragging about buying me a car. He said my mom called in the car as stolen at 10 pm, she didn’t know who took it but thought she saw it at the movie theater parking lot. Cop let me drive the car home and gave both me and my mom a stern talking to, but no charges filed. I still sometimes think about what could’ve happened if anyone else had picked up the phone — 16 year olds are charged as adults for felonies in that state, it could’ve ruined my entire future. Mom and BF were all huffy that the cop didn’t arrest me and more huffy that he was stern with her.
So basically I don’t have a great relationship with these people. My mother is my child’s grandma but BF is not grandad. They’re complaining so much though, and they’ve gotten other family members to join in, so now I’m wondering if I’m unreasonable? Sorry for the long post.

I’ve posted before about my extremely large-for-her-age 9 year old who still prefers to dress like a little girl/has the body shape of a little girl, and gotten some great advice.
New question: She needs some new short sleeved pajamas for summer (shorts and t-shirt like). She has loved the prints and colors from Hanna and Boden but has outgrown their largest size. She needs organic cotton due to her eczema (and can also tolerate e.g. bamboo/lyocell, but less well).
Any leads on finding her the soft, playful cotton pajamas of her dreams in a women’s size small?
My 18 month old has been getting a lot of acne on her chin lately. I’m not sure what is causing it; my one guess is that she has been teething a lot lately and drooling more as a result. Besides trying to keep her chin dry, any other ideas for how to get rid of the acne?
Has anyone submitted or completed the PSLF program lately? I’m technically eligible but two of my 120 payments are classified as ineligible because the loan servicer switched. Customer service rep said they are aware of the issue and working to fix it. If I file for forgiveness now, I’m afraid I’ll get rejected because the system won’t show 120 qualifying payments, but I’m so eager to be done with this. Anyone have any PSLF good news or cautionary tales from the last few months?
I’m loving the Lego rebrand over the past few years. DH is a huge Lego fan. The best part about that is it’s an easy (if expensive) Christmas gift for him every year. I’ve seen the Lego flower sets recently and commented that they looked cool, so he got a set for me for valentines. It was so fun to put together! I love how cheerful they look. Any other later in life Lego converts here?
Gross question, sorry in advance. Our kid is in the preschool room at an all-age daycare (which we otherwise are very happy with) and our general philosophy is not to raise issues unless they are big issues. She toilet trained around the same time she moved into the preschool room, ~6 months ago. Since then she has had two #2 accidents, one recently and one several months back. Both times, she was wiped clean and changed appropriately but then the clothes were put as-is in a plastic bag and sent home. Specifically no effort was made to remove the solids from the underwear (and they are true solids, so relatively easy to remove before bagging). We find this both disgusting and frankly a little surprising, especially since there are some diapered kids in the class so there are supplies for more extensive bathroom clean up. Since the clothes are sitting in this state for multiple hours, it makes clean up at home very hard and has stained a few items. Is this typical level of “clean up” for accidents at this age? Is it worth raising or should we just not rock the boat on this issue since it’s infrequent and presumably will be even less relevant in the future?
Any tips for mending holes in my 5 year old’s pants? I have never had this problem before, but a couple pairs of his cotton sweatpants from old navy are getting holes in them. Obviously they are inexpensive old navy pants so I’m not too surprised, but I don’t want to throw them out for a small hole in the knee. We are in the SEUS and getting ready to start shorts season. I just want these to survive the next month.
