I am dreading taking DS to get his flu and Covid vaccines today. We tried to get them done at his 6 year checkup a couple months ago but he freaked out so we had to cancel it. I forgot to tell him I will be picking him up from Aftercare early today and take him there. I called the ped office and they said they have numbing spray and other things they can do to help kids who have needle anxiety. Any advice from this wise hive?
My 10 yo daughter has always had a very quick temper but recently her anger has become very extreme. Shouting at us at the top of her lungs, throwing things, slamming doors, charging at people. Last night she threw the recycling bin and the cans went everywhere. She also is extremely nasty to me (telling me she hates me, I’m the worst mom, etc.) It has been very difficult and I’m just so worried and emotionally exhausted. I try my best to stay calm but it’s hard when this behavior seems constant. When I try to talk to her about it, she at times can explain that she doesn’t mean to do those things and they just happen and she’s sorry. Other times she almost seems to double down and will blame other people or something else for her behavior.
She was diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago but we have not tried medication because she has always done well in school and behavior at home would ebb and flow. This year her teacher has had to reach out multiple times about her behavior in class. She is talking, getting out of her seat, leaving papers around the class. Her grades have also dropped. On the positive side, she has lots of friends, is a great athlete and plays multiple sports. She’s very kind, inclusive, is also hilarious.
We’ve talked to a therapist and her pediatrician and are going to start medication this weekend. Do you think medication will help with the anger?
I also am just sad that she is struggling so much and worried about how the teenage years will be. I come from a family that doesn’t really believe in ADHD or mental health issues and my parents have made comments about not wanting her to be medicated and I just can’t get over feeling like we failed in some way. I guess I’m just looking for support and/or advice for starting the medication and how to help her.
I know why I plan to work until my baby is born (hello US maternity leave), but I’m 39+3 and I’m Struggling. For my first baby my coworkers were pretty supportive of me doing the bare minimum at this point, but my boss just keeps coming to me with new tasks. There is every chance that I’m not going to be able to finish any of this or worse leave it half-done, why are we doing this?
Does anyone have experience with hip dysplasia in infants? Our two month old just got fitted with a Pavlik harness and I’m feeling a bit down about it although I know it’s for the best. Looking for practical management tips and/or success stories if you have any!
just need to vent – flying to my brother in law’s wedding today and southwest canceled our flight and booked us on a flight on monday….um, the wedding will be over by then!!!
Ughhhhhh it’s been hard lately.
How do you deal with one of your kids wanting the others toy? What if one of them is still a baby?
For some reason, my 3 year old always seems to want her baby sister’s toy. When they get older, I plan to just say no and deal with the toy stealer’s tantrum. But it seems stupid to have the 3 year old freaking out cause she can’t play with her baby sister’s toy when the 6 month old doesn’t even know that she is playing with it. But then I worry I’m creating a bad precedent of letting her steal her sister’s toy.
